Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal has removed Neymar from their squad list for the remainder of the season due to an injury recovery period of up to 10 months.
Last month, during the 2026 World Cup qualifying match between Brazil and Uruguay, Neymar suffered a knee injury. Earlier this month, the 31-year-old striker underwent surgery and is expected to be out of action until September 2024. This means he will miss the remainder of the 2023-2024 season with Al Hilal and the 2024 Copa America with Brazil.

According to Record , Al Hilal's leadership has decided to remove Neymar from the squad list for the remainder of the season. Coach Jorge Jesus wants to sign a new left-back and needs space in the team.
Neymar joined Al Hilal in late August 2023. At that time, the Saudi Arabian club paid PSG $98 million in transfer fees and paid Neymar an income of up to $384 million over two years. This means that during the 10 months he was recovering from injury, the 31-year-old striker still earned $160 million without having to play.
Following his injury surgery, Neymar shared a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed. "Thank God," he wrote. "Everything is fine. Now, what's needed is strength and patience to recover." Neymar has only played five matches and scored one goal for Al Hilal.
Al Hilal currently leads the Saudi Pro League 2023-2024, with 11 wins, two draws, and 35 points after 13 matches. Coach Jorge Jesus's team is seven points ahead of second-placed Al Nassr, but has played one more game. They also lead Group D in the AFC Champions League, with 10 points after three matches, level on points with second-placed Navbahor and ahead on goal difference. In the King Cup, Al Hilal reached the quarter-finals after two wins against Al Jabalain (1-0) and Al Hazem (3-0).
