Alex De Minaur came from behind to win 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(3) against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to win the 2025 Washington Open. The Australian looked like he was going to lose the third set, but a lob just enough to reach the line on the third match point helped him turn things around.

The Washington Open win helped De Minaur move up five places to No. 8 in the ATP rankings and he also rose to No. 8 in the "Race To Turin" rankings. Meanwhile, Davidovich Fokina jumped seven places to return to the world's Top 20 at No. 19, and moved up to No. 11 in the race for the ATP Finals.
Davidovich Fokina is looking for his first ATP Tour title, having previously missed out on the 2025 Mexican Open final against Tomas Machac in March.
Sharing after winning the 2025 Washington Open, Alex De Minaur said: "I put my faith in myself, telling myself that I would compete to the end in my own way. If I lost, it would be in the way I chose.
Today, luck was on my side. I have been through many tough matches, so I am really happy with this victory."
The Australian tennis player also praised Alejandro Davidovich Fokina: "He deserved to win today, I was just luckier. Fokina is a great opponent, a great tennis player. I think the title will come to him soon."
