Coming from behind to win with a score of 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(3) against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Alex De Minaur became the champion of the 2025 Washington Open. The Australian player seemed to have lost in the third set, but a lob that touched the boundary line on the third match point helped him turn the situation around.

De Minaur's victory at the Washington Open propelled him up five places to number 8 in the ATP rankings, and he also rose to number 8 on the "Race To Turin" rankings. Meanwhile, Davidovich Fokina jumped seven places back into the world's Top 20 at number 19, and also moved up to number 11 in the race for a spot in the ATP Finals.
Davidovich Fokina is seeking his first ATP Tour title. He previously missed out on winning the 2025 Mexican Open final against Tomas Machac in March.
Speaking after winning the 2025 Washington Open, Alex De Minaur said: "I put my faith in myself, telling myself I would play to the end in my own way. If I lost, it would be in a way I chose."
Today, luck was on my side. I've been through many tough matches, so I'm really happy with this victory."
The Australian player also praised Alejandro Davidovich Fokina: "He deserved to win today, I was just luckier. Fokina is a great opponent, a fantastic player. I think the title will come to him soon."
