On January 30th, at Da Phuoc High School (Da Phuoc commune, Binh Chanh district), the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee - the Steering Committee for the Management and Use of the "For the Poor" Fund of Ho Chi Minh City; the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee - the Steering Committee for the Management and Use of the "For the Poor" Fund of Binh Chanh district; and VWS Company visited and presented Tet gifts to households in the three communes of Phong Phu, Quy Duc, and Da Phuoc.
VWS Company donated 200 gift packages to 200 disadvantaged families, each package worth 1 million VND including cash and essential necessities for Tet (Lunar New Year), totaling 200 million VND.
Ms. Huynh Lan Phuong, Deputy General Director of VWS Company, presents Tet gifts to Mr. Phuong Thanh Tung.
Struggling to slowly wheel himself in his wheelchair to receive the gift, Mr. Phuong Thanh Tung (78 years old, residing in Hamlet 1, Da Phuoc Commune) burst into tears when Ms. Huynh Lan Phuong, Deputy General Director of VWS Company, inquired about his situation. Mr. Tung said that both he and his wife are elderly and suffer from many illnesses, their children are grown but unemployed, and their lives are extremely difficult.
Previously, Mr. Tung earned just enough money selling lottery tickets to get by. However, due to a stroke, he can no longer move around as much as before, and often has to go out into the streets hoping for the kindness of passersby.
"Fortunately, the local community has always shown concern for my family's situation, and charitable programs have provided gifts. Today, I am deeply moved to receive Tet gifts from the company; it helps me feel more at ease and happier as Tet approaches," Mr. Tung shared.
Upon learning about Mr. Tung's situation, Ms. Lan Phuong was deeply moved and encouraged him to persevere. She also sent a small gift of her own, wishing Mr. Tung good health and happiness in the new year.
VWS Company donated 200 Tet (Lunar New Year) gift packages to help needy people in the three communes of Phong Phu, Quy Duc, and Da Phuoc.
Expressing her joy at receiving Tet gifts, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mai (75 years old, residing in Quy Duc commune) thanked VWS Company and local leaders for their concern for vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
"I hope that more people in similar circumstances to mine will receive attention and support from the company and the local authorities. During Tet (Lunar New Year), seeing everyone excitedly shopping for the festivities, and not having money makes me feel disheartened. These gifts today not only came at the right time, warming our hearts, but also motivate us to have more faith and love for life," said Mrs. Mai.
Ms. Huynh Lan Phuong stated that Mr. David Duong, the founder and current Chairman and CEO of California Waste Solutions (CWS) and VWS, when he began investing in Vietnam, allocated a portion of his budget to social welfare programs. Although the amount was not large, it reflected Mr. David Duong's compassion and goodwill towards those in need.
"Upon encountering various situations, the company realized it's impossible to help all the poor in society, but we always try our best. The company has connected with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, local authorities in Ho Chi Minh City, and Binh Chanh district to collaborate and contribute to supporting those in difficult circumstances. Even more gratifying is that our efforts have inspired many philanthropists to extend their helping hands, so that even more people can receive care and assistance," Ms. Phuong shared.
According to Ms. Truong Thoai Linh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Chanh District, VWS Company has been very active in caring for social welfare activities in the district. During holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), the company has provided meaningful gifts to disadvantaged households in the area, especially in the three communes of Phong Phu, Quy Duc, and Da Phuoc.
"On behalf of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Chanh District and the people who received Tet gifts today, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to VWS Company for creating favorable conditions for the people in the area and supporting the district in its charitable work in the locality," Ms. Linh expressed.
