This move is seen as the next step in India's biofuel development roadmap, paving the way for the production and circulation of vehicles that can use flexible fuels, capable of operating on high-concentration ethanol instead of just ethanol-blended gasoline as is currently the case.
Having achieved its goal of nationwide rollout of E20 gasoline ahead of schedule by 2025, the Indian government is now looking to expand the use of higher-ethanol biofuels such as E85 and E100 to reduce crude oil imports, cut emissions, and support farmers growing sugarcane, corn, and other crops used in ethanol production.

Previously, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the versatile fuel-efficient WagonR, while Hero MotoCorp also introduced motorcycles capable of running on high-concentration ethanol.
Several major automakers, including Toyota, Suzuki, Hyundai, and MG Motor, are expected to introduce E100-compatible models in India within the next one to two months.

According to Indian government figures, the ethanol blending program has helped the country save billions of dollars in oil import costs in recent years, while also significantly reducing carbon emissions from the transportation sector.
The legalization of E100 is expected to further boost the biofuel industry, positioning India as one of the leading countries in the use of ethanol in road transport.
