During his lifetime, Le Luu experienced two great sorrows: loneliness and illness. In the days before his death 12 years ago, he had to take more medicine than he ate food, suffering from numerous ailments such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, gout, lung, pancreatic, kidney, and prostate problems. Literary and artistic circles consider him a prime example of resilience in overcoming personal adversity, transforming his fate into literature, and pouring his blood into every word.

Director and People's Artist Dao Ba Son believes that writer Le Luu's work "The Distant Past" changed the literary landscape of Vietnam in the 1980s. The ideas and message of "The Distant Past" are not outdated for any era, and its adaptation into a film of the same name is vivid proof of its value.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai, Le Luu was the first Vietnamese veteran writer to travel to the United States to give a literary talk to American veterans in 1988. Experts still remember that at the time when the country was just opening up, he was also a pioneer in establishing the Businessmen's Cultural Center. "It can be said that his life is so fascinating that it could be written into a film script or adapted for the stage," Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai stated.

Meritorious Artist Lê Thiện stated: "The life of writer Lê Lựu encapsulates relentless striving. From this newly released work, the artistic community can draw inspiration to write scripts, in order to honor his immense contributions."

Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, President of the Vietnam Writers Association , confided: "Writer Le Luu lived a life where different personalities existed within: a citizen, a writer, a patient, and a celebrity. All of them were constantly troubled and preoccupied by the sensitive rhythm of his heart, so that in nearly 60 years of writing, with over 40 enduring books, he left a huge legacy for Vietnamese literature, contributing many classic works that resonated deeply with Vietnamese literary life."

According to insiders, "Le Luu's writing is the kind that comes from the heart and soul. He wrote exactly how he lived and thought. That's why his writing is unique. And it is this uniqueness that has spread beautiful humanistic values to life."
