- Recently, especially at the beginning of the summer break, the situation of young people driving motorcycles and scooters and violating traffic safety regulations has become quite common, posing many risks to traffic safety and causing frustration for road users.
According to observations by reporters, since the start of this year's summer vacation, especially on weekends, there has been a noticeable increase in young people driving motorcycles and electric scooters at high speeds and violating traffic safety regulations on many main roads in the central wards.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh, residing on Hung Vuong Street, Luong Van Tri Ward, stated: "Recently, I have witnessed many young people riding motorbikes without helmets, speeding, swerving, and weaving dangerously. I hope that the authorities will increase patrols and handle these cases to ensure the safety of road users."
In response to this situation, the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police proactively developed plans and specialized programs, directing teams to intensify comprehensive patrols on key routes and areas. Task forces were deployed flexibly, combining overt and covert patrols. In particular, inter-agency coordination between traffic police, local police, and other functional forces was implemented synchronously, helping to improve the effectiveness of detecting and handling violations. In addition, the police force also increased the use of "cold" penalties (penalties issued based on camera footage).
Lieutenant Hoang Van Binh, from Traffic Police Team No. 1, Provincial Police Department, said: "In order to strictly handle violations, we have increased patrols and inspections, especially on weekend evenings, strictly dealing with traffic safety violations on roads, in central areas, and in complex locations... thereby ensuring traffic safety in the area."
According to data from the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police, from the beginning of 2026 to the present, through patrols and inspections, the provincial traffic police force has detected and issued violation notices to 2,046 cases of young people and students violating the regulations of the Law on Road Traffic Safety. Specifically, the main violations include: speeding, not wearing helmets, driving motorcycles underage, and not obeying traffic lights... an increase of 245 cases compared to the same period. Just since the start of the summer break, from mid-May 2026 to the present, the traffic police force has detected and processed 240 cases of young people and students violating traffic safety regulations.
Since the start of the summer break, from mid-May 2026 to the present, traffic police have detected and handled 240 cases of traffic safety violations by teenagers and students. |
Lieutenant Colonel Phuong Thuc Dinh, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police, said: Strict enforcement of traffic violations aims to educate and deter young people from engaging in dangerous behavior, thereby fostering civilized and safe habits when participating in traffic. Specifically, the Traffic Police Department directs teams in charge of specific areas to proactively coordinate with local police forces to review cases of young people showing signs of violations, questioning and deterring them to prevent future violations. In addition, during patrols and inspections, especially on weekend evenings, the task force will employ undercover and overt tactics to strictly handle violations... to thoroughly prevent violations and maintain peace on roads and in residential areas.
Besides the rigorous efforts of law enforcement agencies in ensuring traffic safety, during each summer, parents need to take responsibility for managing and educating their children, especially teenagers, about complying with traffic safety laws. They should resolutely refuse to allow their children to use vehicles if they are underage or do not meet the requirements to operate them, in order to ensure their own safety and the safety of other road users.
