[Image] The essence of Bat Trang pottery

According to the Đại Việt sử ký toàn thư (Complete History of Đại Việt) and the Dư địa chí (Geography of Vietnam) by Nguyễn Trãi, the Bát Tràng pottery village was established during the Lý Dynasty, around the time King Lý Thái Tổ moved the capital from Thăng Long to Hoa Lư. Bát Tràng pottery products developed and circulated widely within the country from the 15th century, and in the 16th and 17th centuries, they flourished and were exported abroad. Through the ups and downs of history, the Bát Tràng pottery village has always preserved its traditional beauty, proudly remaining the oldest and most famous pottery village in the country.

Pottery is decorated and glazed by skilled artisans. The experience passed down through generations of pottery artisans emphasizes the principle of "first the clay, second the glaze, third the kiln," meaning the clay must be strong and durable, followed by the technique of creating glazes such as brown, red, blue, moss green, and crackle glazes.
