VPF announced the application of VAR in two matches in Round 4. The first match is the clash at Hang Day Stadium between Hanoi FC and Quy Nhon Binh Dinh FC (taking place at 7:15 PM on December 3rd). The second match is the confrontation between Hai Phong FC and Hanoi Police FC (taking place at 6:00 PM on December 4th at Lach Tray Stadium).
In the first three rounds of the Night Wolf V.League 1-2023/24 season, VAR technology was applied in 10 out of 20 matches. Many VAR interventions have brought fairness and assisted the main referee in making accurate decisions.
Two matches in Round 4 of the V.League will utilize VAR technology.
According to statistics, there were 8 instances where the VAR referee suggested that the main referee review the situation on the field screen, and subsequently, the main referee changed his initial decision; 1 instance where the referee upheld the decision after reviewing the situation; and 2 instances where VAR advice helped the main referee make a more accurate decision.
The Night Wolf V.League 1 – 2023/24 is in the initial stages of implementing VAR technology and will be under FIFA supervision for three consecutive years. Each round of the Night Wolf V.League 1-2023/24 may have 2, 3, or a maximum of 4 matches where VAR is applied.
All VAR data from the implemented matches is sent to FIFA after each round so that experts can monitor and evaluate the VAR operational capabilities of the Organizing Committee and the Referees Committee. Initially, FIFA is giving positive feedback on the VAR operation process in the V.League and is regularly providing active support to VPF and the League Organizing Committee.
The introduction of VAR in the V.League is a welcome sign. This technology not only helps referees feel more secure in officiating matches, but it also increases confidence by improving accuracy, making matches with VAR fairer. However, VAR is only a tool to assist referees, and certainly, having VAR cannot completely eliminate the controversies that frequently exist in football.
