Large areas of rice fields in Truong Lam and Cac Son communes and Truc Lam ward have suffered leaf scorching.
Specifically, since June 14th, the aforementioned rice fields in the three localities have suffered from severe water shortages. Combined with the heat and drought, this has caused the leaves of newly transplanted rice to scorch. Furthermore, nearly 30 hectares remain uncultivated due to water scarcity. In response to this situation, local authorities and irrigation units have urgently implemented water supply solutions to combat the drought.
The Nghi Son Irrigation Branch mobilized manpower and machinery to focus on clearing the irrigation canals and drawing water from nearby reservoirs and dams. With intense concentration and the full capacity of 3 mobile pumps, water supply has been restored. However, if the hot weather continues, the high rate of evaporation will cause significant difficulties for irrigation.
According to Mr. Dau Van Hung, Head of the Economic Department of Truong Lam Commune People's Committee: "To address the local water shortage, the local government has increased the number of staff to coordinate with the irrigation unit to implement water diversion plans during peak hot weather periods. However, due to planning constraints, it is difficult to invest in upgrading canals and building pumping stations in this area. Solving the fundamental problem of stable and long-term water supply for production is quite challenging."

Officials from the Nghi Son Irrigation Branch and the Truong Lam commune government are operating a mobile pump to supply water to farmers for tending and planting rice during the main crop season.
Mr. Truong Tuan Viet, Director of the Nghi Son Irrigation Branch, said that the unit has mobilized pumps and increased pumping capacity, focusing on various solutions to quickly restore water supply for production. Given the forecast of continued hot weather in the coming days, the unit will continue to monitor water sources to implement rotational irrigation and conserve water.
Currently, for the C6 and C11 canal areas of the Yen My reservoir system in Cac Son commune, the Nghi Son Irrigation Branch has taken advantage of the rising tide to check and measure salinity levels to ensure that electric pumps can be operated to supplement the water supply to the downstream areas of the canals.
Regarding Thach Luyen reservoir, the water level has dropped very low. The branch has operated all available mobile electric pumps to provide enough water for planting the remaining nearly 30 hectares of rice.
Regarding Khe Doi Lake, the branch is supplying water by gravity flow and is ready to mobilize personnel and equipment to operate electric pumps when required, to prevent drought in Cac Son and Truong Lam communes and Truc Lam ward. They are regularly monitoring weather developments, strengthening inspections of structures, maintaining and servicing machinery and equipment, and developing detailed drought prevention plans and strategies for each area and structure to avoid being caught off guard and to be able to organize and implement measures immediately when needed.
