According to BGR , LG Innotek has started developing an under-display camera and the deployment will take place "after 2026". The technology makes the camera invisible when not in use, increasing the screen's immersion. This is in line with predictions that Apple will launch an all-screen iPhone in 2027 when both Face ID and the front camera can be hidden under the screen.
Completely all-screen iPhones are about to become a reality
To avoid the problem of low-light front cameras, LG is developing a special technology called Feeform Optic that can overcome the limitations of existing under-display cameras. The module will also include multiple lenses, both in a “freeform” shape on one or more surfaces to make the transition seamless.
Of course, developing an under-screen camera will take some time, and we can't expect a truly all-screen iPhone until 2026. Interestingly, Apple has received under-screen camera samples from other companies, but its performance evaluation results have been "unsatisfactory."
Before Apple can implement a truly all-screen iPhone, it will need to hide the Face ID technology under the screen, a transition that is expected to happen in 2025 with the iPhone 17. As a result, Apple could delay the design change across its entire iPhone lineup by another year, meaning the Dynamic Island will remain the same as it is on the current iPhone 15 lineup.
Samsung has reportedly adopted under-display camera technology for the Galaxy Z Fold series. However, the camera specs are too low, which is why Samsung has been emphasizing that users should use the main camera instead of this under-display camera. It will be interesting to see how Apple can address this limitation.
