Sow hard
Mrs. Thi Hen's family has 8 people including 3 generations living together. Many people but little production land, income is mainly from hired labor, so poverty persists. By 2017, she was supported by the state with a breeding cow. She devoted herself to taking care of the cow. When cows suffered from foot-and-mouth disease, she took care of them like children, or when cows encountered many other symptoms of disease, she understood and handled them promptly. Mrs. Thi Hen confided: “My experience is to pay attention to every movement of the cow, especially in the rainy season, when I see cows not eating, fever, tired, I call the veterinarian to see that the cow is healthy the next day. right. Or when it comes to mating age, I can tell at a glance, so my cows give birth every year."
Thanks to her hard work, from 1 support cow, Mrs. Thi Hen has multiplied her herd to 6 cows
Not only that, Ms. Thi Hen is aware that an effective way to prevent diseases for cows is to take care of cows that are healthy, grow up quickly, and be fat. In the dry season, for fear of cows being picky and weak, in addition to getting more grass, she also feeds her cows with straw mixed with salt water for a sweet and salty taste. Because she understands and "afternoon" her livestock, knowing that cows are used to grazing, so even though she has straw, she still lets her cows eat and urges them to eat more in the evening.
Harvest out of poverty
The state-supported cow she takes care of gives birth every year. She said: “I remember the year of the Covid-19 epidemic, all year long my family could not do anything, only went to the shop to buy food, then got sick, took medicine, and had to pay for isolation. At that time, the herd had 4 cows, I sold two bulls for more than 20 million dong, and had money to pay my debts. Up to now, cows continue to multiply the herd with 4 cows. All children are fat and healthy.
Previously, living in an empty bamboo thatched house in front and back, only 10m2 on rainy nights, Mrs. Thi Hen secretly yearned to have a decent house to cover the rain. Her dream came true when in 2022, she was given a 70m2 great solidarity house by the State, along with a water well. From that pedestal plus her own efforts and the hard work of her family members, now her family's life has changed markedly.

When dawn broke out, leading the cows to prepare to eat, Mrs. Thi Hen happily said: "In the past, the family was very miserable, it was very difficult, each month renting cows was only 500 VND. Since the government supported the house, the cow, and the well, I promised myself to work hard and take care of the cows to develop the family economy.
Ms. Thi Thuy, a poverty reduction officer in Thanh An commune, said: "With her hard work and business calculations, Ms. Thi Hen has learned to promote the effectiveness of her livelihood given by the state and rise out of poverty in 2022. Mrs. Thi Hen deserves to be an example of her efforts in labor for ethnic minority households to learn and apply”.
