Silver price today, January 25th: Silver falls to $30.84 per ounce.

For precious metals, silver prices lost nearly 2% of their value, falling to $30.84 per ounce. The price of the precious metal was pressured during the session amid uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision at its meeting on January 28-29.

After two years of surprisingly positive progress on inflation and economic growth, the Federal Reserve will meet next week to assess the new policies of the Trump administration and the subsequent bond market. These uncertainties pose potential challenges to an economy where inflation is nearing the Fed's 2% target, yet has avoided recession and a sharp rise in unemployment.

Accordingly, most financial markets are betting that the Fed will keep interest rates unchanged at next week's meeting after having already lowered them by a single percentage point since September last year. CME Group's interest rate tracker shows a 99.5% probability that the Fed will not cut interest rates next week. The Fed maintaining higher interest rates than previously expected could put pressure on precious metal prices, especially as geopolitical conflicts have shown signs of easing recently.
