Manchester United once hit rock bottom, finishing 15th in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season, the club's worst performance since relegation in 1974. But just one year later, the atmosphere at Old Trafford had changed dramatically.
Michael Carrick's team is currently third in the Premier League and has secured a place in next season's Champions League. This resurgence has made statements that were once considered far-fetched now seem more plausible.
As early as mid-2025, CEO Omar Berrada publicly set the goal of leading Manchester United to win the Premier League by 2028 as part of his "Project 150" plan, aiming towards the club's 150th anniversary.
“Can the team win the Premier League in 2028? Of course they can,” Berrada declared at the time.
The Spanish CEO admitted that Manchester United's 15th-place finish made that goal seem impossible. However, he believes the club is capable of building a championship-winning squad in just two or three transfer windows.
A year after Berrada's statement, Mason Mount has further raised expectations at Old Trafford. The English midfielder believes Manchester United don't need to wait until 2028 to return to the top. Following a strong performance in the 2025/26 season, Mount believes the Red Devils are capable of competing for the championship as early as next season.

"I've won the Champions League, so my next goal is to win the Premier League," Mount emphasized.
The 1999-born star believes that Carrick's Manchester United has proven its capabilities against big opponents like Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal. According to Mount, the only remaining issue is maintaining consistency throughout the season and demonstrating their mettle in the Champions League.
Although the gap between ambition and reality remains large, Manchester United has clearly changed its perspective on the future. From a team mired in crisis, Old Trafford now has the foundation to think about winning the Premier League title.
The question now is no longer whether Manchester United dares to dream, but how long it will take them to turn that dream into reality?
