"Identity Security" with the Capture-the-Flag Contest

Capture-the-Flag (CTF) competition in Hanoi

PwC Vietnam, in collaboration with PwC Hong Kong (China) and other countries in the Asia Pacific region such as Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, successfully organized Hack A Day 2024 with the theme "Securing Identity". The event included a Capture-the-Flag (CTF) competition for university students and a workshop on cybersecurity.

This year, 12 teams from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City represented Vietnam in the CTF competition, along with 72 teams from universities in the region. The teams consisted of students from leading technology universities such as the University of Information Technology – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, the University of Science – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the Academy of Cryptography, RMIT University,FPT University, British University Vietnam (BUV), etc.

The competition features seven hacking challenges, including: Identity Verification, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Attack and Defense, Threat Knowledge and Troubleshooting, Web, and Binary Reverse Engineering. Students have the opportunity to showcase their skills by researching, identifying, and executing strategic attacks to capture as many flags as possible.


The winner of this year's competition is the team "cipis042402k" from the University of Information Technology - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

This year's competition winner is the team "cipis042402k" from the University of Information Technology – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, while the team "404_Not_Found" from the Academy of Cryptography Engineering achieved the highest score in Hanoi. The "cipis042402k" team, along with the "blackpinker" team from the University of Science – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, were among the Top 10 out of 72 teams in the region. High-achieving teams will have the opportunity to intern at PwC, along with attractive prizes from the company, demonstrating PwC's commitment to nurturing young talent and contributing to the overall development of the information technology and cybersecurity industry in Vietnam.


The "404_Not_Found" team from the Academy of Cryptography Engineering achieved the best score in Hanoi.

Alongside the CTF competition, PwC Vietnam also organized a Cybersecurity Workshop as part of the Hack A Day 2024 event, with contributions from popular technology companies such as Fortinet, Alibaba Cloud International, Proofpoint, Cloud Ace-Google Cloud, and Netpoleon-Recorded Future.

The workshop brought together experts in cybersecurity, information technology, and cloud computing, with the aim of raising awareness among businesses about the importance of digital identity security and updating them on new technologies and solutions for addressing increasingly complex cybersecurity risks.

The workshop provided practical insights and highly applicable solutions from leading experts, aiming to support businesses in effectively responding to current cybersecurity challenges, from building a trusted Zero-Trust model and managing digital identities to detecting and preventing identity fraud and sophisticated cyberattacks.

Through Hack A Day, we not only demonstrate our commitment to supporting organizations in Vietnam in addressing urgent cybersecurity challenges but also promote innovation and build a collaborative ecosystem to advance progress in technology in general and cybersecurity in Vietnam in particular.”


The workshop was attended by experts in cybersecurity, information technology, and cloud computing.

Hack A Day is PwC Hong Kong's (China) flagship annual cybersecurity event, in collaboration with PwC members across the Asia Pacific region, including Vietnam. The event includes a Cybersecurity Workshop and a Capture-the-Flag Competition to help students gain a deeper understanding of the cybersecurity ecosystem. This year's theme, "Identity Security," focuses on the importance of protecting personal and digital identities in today's connected world.

For eight consecutive years, Hack A Day has continued to be a platform for enhancing the capabilities of future talents, strengthening their foundation for successful careers in cybersecurity. This year, the CTF competition offers Vietnamese students a unique opportunity to interact with AI models and identity security technologies, showcase their cybersecurity skills, and compete with universities in the Asia-Pacific region. Alongside the competition, a Cybersecurity Workshop is being held to raise business awareness of pressing cybersecurity issues such as building trusted Zero-Trust models, digital identity governance, and detecting and preventing identity fraud and sophisticated cyberattacks.
