(HGO) - In recent days, the price of American corn has been rising sharply, making farmers extremely happy because they have had a good harvest and the price is also high.
Farmers in Vi Tan commune, Vi Thanh city, are happy because of a good harvest and good prices for corn in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).
While harvesting corn for traders, Mr. Truong Van Cuong, from Vi Tan commune, Vi Thanh city, said that American corn is currently being sold at 8,000 VND/kg, with each ear weighing about 500g, equivalent to 4,000 VND/ear. Meanwhile, the price at the market ranges from 8,000 - 10,000 VND/ear for uncooked American corn. As for glutinous corn, farmers are selling it at the farm for 2,200 VND/ear for good quality, and around 1,500 VND/ear for lower quality... Compared to around the 25th of Tet (February 4th, 2024), the price has increased by 200-300 VND/ear, and the supply has also increased significantly.
According to the growers, each hectare of corn can accommodate more than 4,000 plants, with farmers leaving one ear per plant. After more than two months of cultivation, deducting all costs, the growers still earn a profit of over 5 million VND per hectare.
The reason for the increase in corn prices is the high consumer demand at the end of the year, especially for purchasing corn to cook in preparation for New Year's Eve and the New Year, hoping for a prosperous and successful year.
