Arrested 2 customs officers receiving bribes

On March 23, Ho Chi Minh City Police announced that the Investigation Police Agency (PC03) of Ho Chi Minh City Police has just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Ho Viet Tan (61 years old, residing in Tien Giang province), Bui Huynh Ba Phuoc (40 years old, residing in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), both customs officers of Phu My Port Customs Branch, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Customs Department for the crime of accepting bribes.

The above decisions and orders have been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Police, this is the result of an expanded investigation into the case of "smuggling" FO and DO oil by Le Tan Hoa (48 years old, residing in District 7) and his accomplices.

Through investigation, initially, the police determined that this group operated under the guise of the legal entity Saigon Transco Petroleum Transport Company Limited, carrying out contracts to transport FO and DO oil (temporarily imported and re-exported) from Nha Be Petroleum Depot to international ships anchored in the Dong Nai River area, Phu My - Vung Tau port, Lotus port... to connect with captains and chief engineers to buy back a portion of FO and DO oil in the shipment for foreign ships.

The oil will then be hidden in secret compartments designed on the company's barges, then transported for consumption in the domestic market without completing customs declaration procedures as prescribed.

The defendants colluded with captains and chief engineers to buy back part of the FO and DO oil in the shipment for foreign ships.

At the investigation agency, the prosecuted customs officers confessed to receiving bribes from Le Tan Hoa and employees of Saigon Transco Petroleum Transport Company Limited to not fully implement customs supervision procedures as prescribed; creating conditions for Le Tan Hoa and his accomplices to buy and sell FO and DO oil from international ships without declaring to customs.

Regarding this case, up to now, PC03 has prosecuted 8 defendants to continue investigating and clarifying the acts of smuggling, giving and receiving bribes and the positions and roles of the defendants in the case.

Currently, PC03 is expanding the investigation to clarify other related signs of violations and negativity for strict and thorough handling.
