Kidnapped and eaten, 9 students hospitalized

Nine Jarai ethnic students in Gia Lai province were kidnapped and eaten, and were collectively poisoned and had to be hospitalized for treatment.

On September 5, Mr. Le Trong Phuc - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ia Dom commune ( Gia Lai province) - confirmed that a mass poisoning incident had just occurred among students due to eating toad meat.

The incident occurred on September 3 in Mook Trang village, Ia Dom commune. The victims were 9 students aged 10-14, Jarai ethnic, living in this village.

According to initial verification, while the parents were away working in the fields, the children kidnapped the animals, butchered them, processed them, and ate them.

After eating toad meat, this group of students experienced poisoning symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, numbness of lips and tongue, and fatigue.

Upon receiving the news, the commune authorities coordinated with local police to take the children to the commune health station for first aid and transfer them to Gia Lai Provincial Children's Hospital for treatment.

Doctor Dang Huu Chien - Director of Gia Lai Provincial Children's Hospital - informed that so far 2 patients have been discharged from the hospital, the remaining children's health has stabilized, are continuing to be monitored and will be discharged in the next few days.

According to Dr. Chien, fortunately the children suffered mild poisoning, not life-threatening.

After the incident, the chairman of the Ia Dom Commune People's Committee said he had sent officials to educate the people of Mook Trang village about the dangers of eating toad meat.
