Arrest of subject in app fraud ring

The Criminal Police Department of the Provincial Police has arrested Vu Duy Son (born in 1997, residing in Van Quan ward, Ha Dong district, Hanoi ) to expand the investigation and prosecute him for the crime of fraud and appropriation of property.

According to initial investigations, on February 19, 2023, Mr. H (residing in Buon Ma Thuot City) reported to the police that he had been scammed out of his money by a group of individuals. Prior to this, Mr. H had accessed the Henho.bio website to find someone of the opposite sex to chat with. He was then instructed by a customer service representative to log into the "Ky nu" app. However, after following the instructions, he was scammed out of over 1 billion VND.

After a period of intensive investigation, the Criminal Police Department of the Provincial Police clarified that Vu Duy Son was a "link" in the aforementioned fraud ring and proceeded to arrest him.

Initially, Son confessed that around mid-October 2022, through social media, he met Hung and Minh (whose identities and backgrounds are unknown) living in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). In December 2022, Minh contacted Son via Telegram and assigned him the task of receiving money from people Minh's group had tricked into participating in the "Henho" and "Ky nu" apps. Minh would pay Son 12 million VND per month for his services.

To carry out the scheme, Minh gave Son 6 mobile phones and 31 bank accounts. Every day, through the apps “Henho” and “Ky nu,” Minh's group members would entice players to join. They would then advise players to deposit more money to become VIP members. The larger the amount deposited and the more successful the login, the more the player would receive a refund from the company and earn interest. After Minh's group members successfully persuaded players to deposit money, they would inform Son to provide the bank account numbers for the players to deposit into. Son was responsible for transferring all the money to Minh.

Using the above tactics, from December 2022 to the present, Son has helped Minh's group defraud more than 300 people, appropriating over 200 billion VND. Son himself has profited approximately 300 million VND.
