Despite spending many years studying and working in the city, Mr. Sun (born in 1990) decided to give up urban life and return to his hometown in Hunan Province, China, in 2020. Photo: Toutiao To build a retirement home for his parents and himself, Ton embarked on the design process and spent over five years completing it, from the initial sketches to the finished product. The villa, consisting of three floors, sits atop a mountain slope and covers an area of over 760 square meters. Photo: Toutiao Each floor features a unique walkway leading directly to the garden, creating a semi-open space that is close to nature. Photo: Toutiao To ensure the house is durable and warm in winter, high-quality materials such as bamboo, polished stone, and glass are used. Photo: Toutiao To avoid the gloomy feeling often found in houses built into the mountains, Sun designed two skylights: one in the center of the house and a three-story spiral staircase. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors connect the indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing natural breezes to circulate without the need for fans. Each space in the house is designed to meet the individual needs of each family member. Photo: Toutiao The garden corner is a place where family and friends from all over come to relax and find balance in life. Photo: Toutiao
