Paths of Compassion

Whenever the local authorities plan to build bridges or roads, Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Secretary of the An Lac Hamlet Party Branch in Binh An Commune, brings the blueprints to each household to persuade, discuss, and listen to opinions. He believes: "Bridges and roads are built for the people to use, so the people must be informed, consulted, and involved in the process." Thanks to this democratic and transparent approach, within just a few years, many bridges and concrete roads have been completed, contributing to changing the face of the rural area and facilitating travel, production, and goods circulation for the people.

Not only was he a campaigner, Mr. Trung was always a pioneer in action. At each construction site, people saw him rolling up his sleeves to mix mortar, carry steel, and wade through mud alongside the villagers. Thanks to his efforts, over 90% of the inter-hamlet and inter-neighborhood roads in An Lac have now been concreted, strengthening the spirit of solidarity within the community. Recently, the residents of Group 10 were delighted when the inter-neighborhood road was newly concreted and had streetlights on both sides. This achievement comes from Mr. Trung's persistent campaigning, the joint efforts of philanthropists, and the people. Mr. Tran Minh Thanh, a Party member of the hamlet's Party branch, shared: "Before, the roads were very difficult to travel on, especially during the rainy season. When Comrade Trung campaigned, everyone wholeheartedly supported it. Now, with the new road, travel and trade are more convenient, and students can safely attend evening classes."

Having been dedicated to the hamlet for over 12 years, Mr. Nguyen Van Trung is not only an exemplary leader but also the "glue" that unites the people. Thanks to his dedication and personal prestige, An Lac hamlet, which previously had 38 poor households and 56 near-poor households, now only has 6 poor households and 14 near-poor households. Mr. Trung confided: "As a leader, if I just stand by and watch, the people won't trust me. Only by working alongside the people can I understand the hardship and the value of every inch of road. Seeing the people traveling conveniently and united, I feel that my efforts have been worthwhile."

Strengthening the bonds of community in villages and hamlets.

In the border region of Ha Tien, Mr. Si Phon, Secretary of the My Lo neighborhood Party branch, serves as a bridge between the Party, the government, and the ethnic minority people. Besides handling official duties, he frequently visits villages and hamlets to disseminate information and encourage residents to comply with the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws. He also coordinates with officers and soldiers of the Ha Tien International Border Gate Border Guard Post to patrol and protect the border, boundary markers, and maintain security and order. As a result, security and order in the neighborhood remain stable, with no hotspots emerging. Ms. Thi So Phanh, residing in group 6, said: “Mr. Si Phon speaks gently and clearly; everyone respects him. Thanks to his efforts, people know how to protect the border and no longer cross illegally. He does a lot and talks little; he does everything thoroughly.”

My Lo neighborhood has 401 households with over 1,760 residents, of which ethnic minorities (Khmer and Hoa) account for over 80%. Despite starting from a difficult point, the entire neighborhood now has no poor households – a result that bears the strong imprint of Mr. Si Phon. He found ways to help people switch to different crops and livestock, applying scientific and technical advancements to improve economic efficiency. A prime example is Mr. Lam Bo Pha's household in group 5, who previously grew rice on acidic soil, constantly struggling to make ends meet. Thanks to Mr. Si Phon's guidance and encouragement, Mr. Pha boldly planted lotus, earning nearly 50 million VND per year and escaping poverty sustainably. Mr. Pha shared: "If it weren't for Mr. Si Phon's encouragement, I wouldn't have dared to change professions. Now, lotus is easy to grow, the income is stable, and my family's life is much better."

Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Ha Tien Ward, Duong Van Thuan, commented: “Comrade Si Phon is an exemplary, energetic, and reputable Party branch secretary in the locality. He always promotes unity, understands the concerns of the people, and promptly reflects and resolves emerging issues. In particular, he does a good job of disseminating information and mobilizing people to protect the border and boundary markers, maintaining security and order.”

For many years, the My Lo neighborhood Party branch has excellently fulfilled its duties, achieving the title of "Four Good Party Branch," and Mr. Si Phon himself was awarded a certificate of commendation by the Minister of Public Security for his outstanding achievements in the nationwide movement to protect national security in the Southwest region during the period 2018 - 2024.

Whether in An Lac hamlet or My Lo neighborhood, Party branch secretaries like Mr. Nguyen Van Trung and Mr. Si Phon are beautiful examples of grassroots Party members who are close to the people, understand the people, and work for the people, contributing to building a more prosperous and beautiful An Giang homeland.
