Apple's leadership transition is underway, with the departures of its top interface designer Alan Dye and AI chief John Giannandrea followed by further changes in 2026.

Specifically, Kate Adams, who has served as Apple's General Counsel since 2017, will retire at the end of next year. Meanwhile, Lisa Jackson, Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, will retire at the end of January 2026.

The departure of two leaders in charge of legal and policy at the same time as Apple is facing many legal and social challenges is a remarkable event.

As a replacement, Apple hired Jennifer Newstead as Apple's new General Counsel on March 1, 2026, reporting directly to CEO Tim Cook.

Cook said Newstead will oversee both the Legal and Government Relations teams. “She brings an extraordinary depth of experience and skills to this role and will advance Apple’s important work around the world ,” the Apple CEO said.

Meta has previously successfully lured Alan Dye, Apple's top interface designer, in what is considered a major turning point. This reflects the social networking giant's ambition to step up the development of AI-integrated consumer devices.

Dye, who has been Apple's chief interface designer since 2015, will leave the company after informing executives this week. Apple will appoint veteran designer Stephen Lemay to replace him.

“Steve Lemay has played a key role in designing every major Apple interface since 1999. He has always set a very high standard for excellence and embodies the company's creative, collaborative culture,” said CEO Tim Cook.
