(Quang Ngai Newspaper) - General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away at 1:38 p.m. on July 19, 2024, at the age of 80. The passing of the General Secretary is a great loss to the Party, the State, our people and his family; leaving behind infinite sorrow for the people of the whole country and friends around the world . To express condolences and commemorate the General Secretary, the Party and State of Vietnam decided to hold a funeral for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong with the rites of a State funeral.

At the same time, the entire Party, the entire army and the entire Vietnamese nation in general, and the Party Committee and people of Quang Ngai province in particular, will be determined to turn this sorrow into action through concrete actions, to be worthy successors to the legacy and career that comrade left for the entire Party and our people. This is also a precious tradition of the Vietnamese nation and the wish and passion of the General Secretary before he passed away.
Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong joined the work very early (in 1967); joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on December 19, 1967; was a member of the Party Central Committee from the 7th to the 13th term; a member of the Politburo from the 8th to the 13th term and was General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam from the 11th, 12th and 13th terms.
At 80 years old and 57 years in the Party, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is highly appreciated by the entire Party, the entire army and our people as a shining example of revolutionary morality of a communist soldier, who devoted his whole life to the ideal of national independence and socialism, for the happiness of the people.
He was a great intellectual and talented leader of the Vietnamese revolution; an ideologist, a culturalist, a theorist of the Party, an excellent student who constantly studied and followed the ideology, morality and style of the great President Ho Chi Minh. He devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of our Party and nation.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, he was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 55-year Party membership badge, and many other noble Vietnamese and international orders and medals by the Party and State.
The road ahead for our country has many advantages and opportunities for development, but at the same time there are many challenges, especially as the regional and world situation continues to have unpredictable developments.
Therefore, our entire Party, army and people need to continue to promote the spirit of solidarity and the tradition of patriotism of our nation; be proactive, creative and flexible in carrying out assigned political tasks; proactively carry out tasks in all situations, maintain political stability; promote socio-economic development, take good care of the material and spiritual life of the people; firmly protect the Fatherland early and from afar; seek the sympathy and support of friends from other countries and international organizations.
In the immediate future, we will focus on successfully implementing the goals and targets set out in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; well implementing the preparation work for Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term, towards the 14th National Party Congress; and electing the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
The Party Committee, government, army and people of all ethnic groups in Quang Ngai province will forever cherish and remember the great contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who devoted his wholehearted efforts to the revolutionary cause of our Party and people, especially in the cause of innovation, national construction and defense.
In the hearts of every patriotic Vietnamese people in general, and the people of the homeland of An Mountain - Tra River in particular, the image of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - the highest leader of our Party who sacrificed himself for the great cause of the Party and the nation will always be engraved. He is also an erudite intellectual, full of compassion, simple in everyday life, respected by compatriots across the country and friends around the world.
