The Quất Lâm tourist area (Giao Ninh commune, Ninh Bình province) has recently been renamed Giao Ninh tourist area, marking a new turning point in the development orientation and effective exploitation of the potential of coastal tourism after the merger.

Quat Lam Beach, approximately 3.5 km long, has been a tourist destination for over 30 years and was once a popular seaside resort for many tourists in the North. However, over the years, Quat Lam has seen the emergence of many distorted services, affecting the image of the destination.

Between 2012 and 2021, hundreds of service kiosks operated densely along the coast, including establishments disguised as karaoke parlors, massage parlors, traditional massage centers, and saunas to organize prostitution activities.

In 2021 and 2022, the authorities cleared all the beachfront kiosks to renovate and develop the tourist area in a civilized and wholesome manner. In April 2025, Quat Lam beach was recognized as a provincial-level tourist area, but the area remains stagnant due to a lack of new tourism products.

Along the main roads in the tourist area, numerous hotels and guesthouses remain abandoned and in serious disrepair, with peeling facades, broken roofs, and walls stained with moss and mold.

Many unfinished construction projects have long been abandoned, becoming unsightly concrete structures amidst the seaside tourist area.

The decline in tourist numbers has also led to a slowdown in seafood sales for vendors at Quat Lam market. Many stalls in the market have closed, and some have been left empty for extended periods, a stark contrast to the bustling activity that used to take place every summer.

In this context, rebranding and orienting development towards a diversified tourism model are expected to give this coastal resort area a boost to regain its attractiveness to tourists.

In recent days, at the Giao Ninh beach resort, machinery, equipment, and dozens of workers have been mobilized to work diligently on upgrading infrastructure and improving the landscape, gradually giving this coastal area a new look.

"Seeing the machinery and workers bustling about these past few days, we're very happy. Everyone here hopes the beach will be renovated and become more attractive, attracting more tourists so that business can flourish again. Quat Lam, once famous, now has a new name, Giao Ninh, and we hope there will be even more opportunities for development, so that this beach area can regain its former bustling atmosphere," shared Mr. Vu Van Kha (62 years old, a local resident).
