On April 21st, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Science and Technology held a ceremony to commemorate World Innovation Day 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Science and Technology, said that the April 21st Innovation Day is not only a day for scientists or technology businesses, but also to honor the creative thinking of everyone in all industries and fields (farmers improving agricultural machinery, students creating educational products).
For Vietnam, the April 21st Innovation and Creativity Day is not just a day for scientists or technology companies, but a day to honor the creative thinking of everyone in every industry and field (farmers improving agricultural machinery, students creating educational products), encouraging the spirit of "dare to think, dare to do, dare to innovate" throughout society, and connecting creativity and innovation with sustainable development.
Mr. Hung stated that the Politburo has assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology to develop a national startup project, the main content of which is to foster a spirit of innovation among the entire population, making innovation a way of life for all citizens and organizations.
Build a culture of innovation, encourage exploration, and tolerate failure.
Innovation is the driving force of development; promoting innovation is promoting development; and planning for innovation is planning for the future. Innovation in science and technology should be directed towards solving major national problems.
According to him, for creativity and innovation to become nationwide, there must be a comprehensive digital transformation, digitizing the entire real world and moving all activities to the digital environment.
The digital environment is the ideal environment for any idea to be realized most quickly, because it is non-physical, distance-free, and contactless. Vietnamese innovation must be placed within the context of national digital transformation.
"Building a nationwide culture of innovation will be the core element in achieving success in Vietnam's breakthrough in science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation, as launched by the Central Party Committee and General Secretary To Lam," Mr. Hung said.

Pauline Tamesis, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, stated that artificial intelligence (AI) is gradually reshaping economies and societies. In Vietnam, 54% of administrative agencies have adopted AI, but only 20% have ethical guidelines for its use.
According to her, this raises fundamental questions: How can we ensure fairness? How can we protect rights? And how can we prevent technology from deepening inequality?
Pauline Tamesis believes that students should not only be digital citizens, but also digital leaders.
"The role of students is crucial, not only in creating technologies, but also in defining the values that those technologies serve. And we, the United Nations, are ready to support your efforts to the best of our ability," emphasized Pauline Tamesis.
April 21st each year is designated by the United Nations as World Innovation Day, aiming to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in socio-economic development, building a sustainable society, and promoting the all-round development of humankind.
2025 marks the fourth year that the Ministry of Science and Technology has organized the celebration of World Innovation Day.
Themes for the campaign: "Innovation - think differently, do differently for the better"; "Innovation - pioneering businesses - a prosperous nation"; "Innovation for all citizens - comprehensive digital transformation - for a better life".
