- Hello singer Le Vinh Toan, can you share about the musical film project "Mien nho" which has just premiered on VTV1?
- Le Vinh Toan would like to thank the audience for their love for the musical film “Memories”. For Toan, this is not only an art project but also a song of memories, the voice of a child far from home who always yearns for his parents, his homeland, the bamboo fence, the ferry and his mother’s lullabies. When “Memories” was produced and warmly received by Vietnam Television, I felt like I had just returned to my old village, holding the audience’s hand and walking along the riverbank of my hometown, retelling old stories with melody. Toan hopes that every film, every song carries within it the breath of the soul of the land, the soul of the people, of the homeland.
- It can be said that to achieve the success of today, Le Vinh Toan has gone through a bumpy, arduous and difficult journey. Can you share about the journey you have gone through?
- Toan's musical path is like a village dike after the rainy season, bumpy, slippery, and many sections require him to grope step by step. Toan has nothing but a rustic, country voice, and a heart that flutters every time he hears the sound of a guitar or a song coming from the loudspeakers, or a folk song playing in the twilight. There are nights when he hears his mother's lullaby by the oil lamp. There are days when he only has enough money for one meal, but he still tells himself not to give up. Music is not an easy path, but it is the path Toan chose with all his heart, and each hardship is a musical note that nourishes Toan's growth, little by little.
- At the age of 22, you just took the entrance exam to the Vietnam National Academy of Music. How do you feel about your efforts when you were discovered and mentored even though you were "too old" to enter the profession?
- Toan never thought he would have the opportunity to enter the Vietnam National Academy of Music, especially when he had long passed the age when he should have been a student. But life was so miraculous that Toan met singer Huyen Trang. Huyen Trang introduced Toan to meet Ms. Tan Nhan, the teacher who saw in Toan a belief. I entered the lecture hall not with advantage, but with desire. Toan sang like a farmer plowing the fields quietly, diligently, and sincerely. With the belief that as long as an artist lives true to his singing, even if he arrives late, the audience is still ready to welcome him.
- Is the rustic, sincere and thoughtful way of singing of Vinh Toan come from life experiences?
- Toan thinks music is the echo of life. For Toan, it is the days of rain and sun, the early morning and late night bus rides, the sound of mother coaxing by the hammock, the figure of father working hard in the vegetable patch, the childhood in the fields during flood season... All of those things seep into Toan's blood, become musical notes. When I sing, I don't try to sing well, I just want to tell a story with my true voice, with my heart that has been hurt, happy, and struggling in life. And perhaps that's why the listener feels the sincerity in it, like a familiar person sitting next to me, telling the story of life through song.
- It seems Vinh Toan is very confident in his choice on the artistic path?
- Toan not only believes - but Toan lives for it. Because if he didn't believe, Toan would have stopped a long time ago, at the most difficult turns. Toan still remembers the heartwarming advice from Ms. Tan Nhan, Mr. Le Anh Dung - great artists not only because of their talent but also because of the way their teachers kept the fire of their profession in their hearts. The teachers believed in Toan, and that made Toan believe in himself even more. Art is not an easy path, but it is a beautiful path because of silent sacrifices, perseverance and faith. Toan believes that if he walks with true love, with patience and tireless work, then one day, music will take him to the right place where he belongs.
- Can Vinh Toan share about this year's music project?
- In fact, this year will be a very busy and special year for Toan. Toan is nurturing a new music project full of passion. However, because the project is still in the process of building ideas and making specific plans, Toan cannot share in depth at this time. But certainly, when the time is ripe, Toan will share with the audience with all respect - as the most sincere musical gift to those who always follow and love Le Vinh Toan.
