App Tracking Transparency - a feature introduced by Apple on iPhone since iOS 14.5 (2020) allows users to control which applications are allowed to track or not. Tracking activities allow applications to obtain data about the user's usage, location... and send it to advertisers, or more dangerously, the risk of data leakage if it falls into the hands of third parties.
All iPhones running iOS 14.5 or later can enable or disable tracking blocking for all apps or individual programs. To get the most out of this useful feature, users can follow one of the two steps below.
For newly installed applications
When you first download and install the application on your phone, the first time you open it, the system will display a notification asking the user to grant permission for the software to track activities, along with details about what types of data the developer can collect. To avoid being bothered and security risks, users should refuse to grant permission by clicking on the Ask App not to Track option.
App Tracking Transparency is a useful feature that should be enabled on your iPhone.
To avoid repeating this operation in future application installations, users access the path on the device: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking then turn the Allow Apps to Request to Track switch to Off (gray). This way, any new program added to the device will automatically deny the right to track the owner's activities and information. Previously granted applications are not affected by the above operation.
For applications that already exist on the device
Users can turn off tracking permissions for each application as needed by accessing the path: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking . Here will be a list of programs that have requested to collect information about the owner's activities. When needing to block tracking of any application, users just need to turn the corresponding switch to Off .
It’s important to note that blocking activity tracking apps doesn’t mean developers can’t collect user information, it just limits targeted advertising campaigns, making them less accurate. Users will still see ads, but they’ll mostly be generic and not specific to their needs. Meanwhile, developers still have many other tools to capture information about potential customers.
If you want to minimize advertising, users should be careful when using software, surfing the web... to reduce the possibility of having their behavior and habits tracked.
