According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training , 74 candidates nationwide were suspended from the 2026 high school graduation exam. The majority of these cases involved bringing mobile phones into the exam room, while the remainder involved using unauthorized materials. These numbers are not large compared to the more than 1.2 million candidates, but they are enough to show that exam cheating remains a serious issue. The high school graduation exam always carries the potential for malpractice, especially as technological devices become increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect.
Looking at the cases of exam suspensions, it's clear that most didn't stem from a lack of understanding of the regulations. Before the exam, students were informed of the rules by their schools, and teachers repeatedly reminded them about items not allowed in the exam room and violations of the regulations. However, from a sense of complacency and anxiety before the exam to a desire for an extra "safety net" while taking the test, some candidates still violated the rules.
Many teachers with years of experience in exam supervision believe that cheating methods today are vastly different from the past. While previously cheating mainly involved notes and paper, now electronic devices are increasingly compact and harder to detect. Worryingly, the development of AI and disguised technology is increasing the risk of exam cheating. Simply photographing the exam questions and sending them outside allows AI to assist in solving the problems in a very short time, then transmitting the answers back into the exam room via miniature devices. This poses a significant challenge to ensuring the fairness and integrity of the exam and demands stricter preventative measures.
In Hue City, this year's high school graduation exam took place safely and seriously. Outside many exam centers, parents quietly waited for their children, while teams of enthusiastic young volunteers provided support to the candidates. This atmosphere reflects the concern of families and society for an important exam, and also conveys faith in fairness and honesty in education . Because, no matter how much technology changes, the deciding factor remains the students' awareness. Students entering the exam room with confidence and a relaxed mindset will not think about cheating.
Many parents in Hue share the same belief: exams are not just about scores, as they no longer place too much emphasis on their children achieving high marks like their peers. An exam is merely a milestone on the journey to adulthood. In reality, some people may have achieved less-than-ideal results but still found a suitable path through their own efforts. Others may have excellent transcripts but struggle in life. Ultimately, what helps each person go further is their genuine ability and sense of responsibility in their choices.
The law always has sufficiently strict penalties to deal with fraudulent behavior. But perhaps the greatest punishment lies not in the numbers or the sentences, but in the fact that young people lose the opportunity to prove their abilities through their own efforts.
