The new change will apply across the entire Canada-US border and allow both countries to refuse to accept asylum seekers at unofficial crossings.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government has reached a long-discussed agreement with the United States on illegal migration that would allow Canada to close the illegal border crossing on Roxham Road in the common border area.
In addition, Canada will open its doors to 15.000 migrants from the Western Hemisphere to apply for legal entry into the country.
The agreement comes in the form of a change to the way the “Safe Third Country Agreement” is applied between Canada and the United States.
This would close a loophole in the agreement that went into effect in 2004 and currently prevents Canadian law enforcement from sending asylum seekers back into the country at locations other than official ports of entry on the common border.
The change would apply across the entire Canada-U.S. border and allow both countries to refuse to accept asylum seekers at unofficial crossings.
Progress on negotiating a new border agreement between the two countries has accelerated ahead of US President Joe Biden's first official visit to Canada.
The agreement will take effect immediately after it is announced because the changes do not need to be approved by the US Congress, but can be passed by an executive order.
