Warning about scams targeting tour bookings, flights, and hotels during Tet (Lunar New Year).

(NLĐO) - The practice of creating fake fanpages and forging invoices from travel companies to sell tours, airline tickets, and hotels is increasing as Tet approaches.

With the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday lasting 9 days, the demand for package tours and independent travel (including flights and hotels) is increasing.

Mr. Tran Thanh Vu, General Director of Vinagroup Tourism Company, said that currently there are many individuals impersonating officials and employees of businesses to sell low-priced products and special promotions, especially airline tickets or package tours. They then request customers to transfer money to the seller's personal account, leading to many people being scammed.

"Customers book services but only find out upon arrival at the airport that the tickets are fake and the booking code cannot be used for check-in. In some cases, the sale of cheap hotel rooms during Tet is actually a scam; customers only find out upon contacting the hotel that their booking has not been confirmed," Mr. Vu cited as an example.

According to travel companies, common scams during Tet include offering cheap tours and service packages, and using fake booking codes for airline tickets or hotel rooms.

Ms. Tran Phuong Linh, Director of Information Technology Marketing at BenThanh Tourist Company, advises that to avoid being scammed when booking tours and airline tickets during Tet (Lunar New Year), customers should be cautious and carefully check information when booking services online.

To date, many customers have booked services through websites/social media accounts impersonating major travel brands, receiving poor quality service or finding that the service is unavailable on the day of departure…

Many travel companies report that scammers are using tactics such as creating fake fan pages and forging invoices.

PYS Travel has received several complaints from customers who have encountered cases of impersonation and fraud using similar procedures.

"We continuously update, disseminate, and announce information on the company's official channels to warn customers to avoid fraudulent schemes. The company also guides customers on how to identify, verify, and distinguish impersonation cases; and provides guidance on safe payment methods," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Hien, Deputy Director of PYS Travel.
