Agoda, a digital travel platform, has just announced the results of a survey on the demand for travel destinations during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday.
Based on the search volume of travelers in Vietnam during October and November 2025 for check-in dates between February 14th and 22nd, 2026, Agoda notes an increase in interest in both domestic and international travel during the 2026 Lunar New Year compared to the previous Lunar New Year season.
In particular, domestic tourism was the main contributor to the growth momentum during this Tet holiday season, with an increase of nearly 22%. Meanwhile, demand for outbound tourism increased only slightly, reaching 7%.
According to Agoda representatives, this information also reflects the results from Agoda's 2026 Travel Trends Report, which shows that 50% of Vietnamese respondents plan to travel domestically this year. With the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday and the habit of using annual leave to extend vacation time, this is an ideal opportunity for Vietnamese families to reconnect, relax, and explore destinations across the country, instead of worrying about the complicated procedures of international travel.
Among destinations, Da Lat continues to hold the position of the most popular domestic destination for the 2026 Lunar New Year season, with a 44% increase in searches. Surpassing Nha Trang, Phu Quoc ranks second with a 41% increase; followed by Nha Trang, Da Nang , Vung Tau, and Ho Chi Minh City…
This development is quite surprising compared to the trend of previous years, when the demand for overseas tours during Tet (Lunar New Year) among Vietnamese tourists overshadowed domestic tours.

Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Director of Communications at Vietluxtour Travel Company, said that the Tet 2026 market has been "heating up" since the beginning of November and is now at its peak. The biggest difference this year is that customers tend to opt for longer holidays. Tours specifically designed for small family groups have seen a surge in demand. Customers are willing to pay higher costs for private transportation, personal guides, and flexible itineraries that ensure the health of the elderly and young children.
"Tet tour prices maintain an increase of about 5-15% compared to normal prices, depending on the route, mostly due to the impact of airfare and restaurant/hotel services during the Tet holiday," said Ms. Bao Thu.
BenThanh Tourist Company also stated that this year's Tet holiday tour trends show that the North and Central regions – especially Da Nang and Hoi An – continue to be the preferred destinations for tourists. Currently, tour groups to the North have reached over 50% of their capacity. Other domestic routes are experiencing slower booking rates, consistent with the habit of Vietnamese tourists booking tours closer to the departure date.
