The above information was shared by Dr. Dr. Lam Van Butt - Head of Vascular Surgery Department, Cho Ray Hospital (HCMC), Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Vascular Disease Association - shared at the scientific conference on vascular diseases organized by the Vietnam Vascular Pathology Association on June 3.
Experts report at the conference
According to Dr. Lam Van Butt, the vascular system plays a role in transporting blood throughout the body. Vascular diseases are diseases that affect the circulatory system. When coronary arteries accumulate plaque and cholesterol, it leads to blockage.
Common vascular diseases such as peripheral vascular disease; abdominal aortic aneurysm; coronary artery disease… Vascular disease can cause serious cardiovascular complications such as thrombosis, stroke, myocardial infarction. The disease has not yet received adequate attention. When the disease is not treated in time, the patient often has very dangerous complications.
The disease occurs mostly in the elderly (from 50 years of age and older), in which, 70% of patients are concentrated in the age group of 70 years and older.
The main cause of vascular disease is atherosclerosis (90%). As we age, atherosclerosis can cause narrowing, blockage, dilation, and aneurysms. In addition, there are a number of other causes such as diabetes, metabolic disorders, high blood pressure, kidney failure, etc.
Currently, the disease model related to blood vessels is very diverse, related to many different specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, geriatrics. However, with the great development of technology, the problem of diagnosis and endovascular intervention has been timely to limit the risks as well as solve for many complicated disease cases.
“The disease is related to many lifestyle factors. Therefore, to prevent disease, you should eat a moderate diet, have a reasonable exercise regimen, do not smoke ...
In particular, the disease often progresses silently, so when there are signs of numbness in the legs, cramps, high blood pressure or comorbidities, it is necessary to regularly screen, periodically visit health to promptly detect the disease and treat it early "- Doctor Butt recommended.
Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof-Dr. Nguyen Huu Uoc, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Vascular Diseases, said that the conference had 149 scientific papers, 5 sessions to share and exchange scientific research with international experts.
