Manchester United fans had a bad experience. |
Hundreds of Manchester United fans were stranded outside Old Trafford due to a serious incident at the ticket checkpoints – described by many as "the worst they've ever seen".
Reports indicate that the influx of people into the stadium was severely delayed due to lengthy security checks and a series of glitches related to the new ticketing system. Many fans missed the kick-off, even though they arrived well in advance. Some only managed to enter the stadium near the end of the first half.
The anger intensified as the match ended in disappointment. Manchester United took the lead thanks to a 58th-minute goal from Diogo Dalot, but Magassa equalized in the final minutes. Many fans felt they had endured an inconvenient and frustrating evening.
The main reason is believed to stem from the club's switch to NFC technology for all tickets for the 2025/26 season. All tickets are digital, stored in a digital wallet on a phone, and scanned directly at the turnstile. However, this process has been plagued by errors – from tickets not appearing on the device, poor connectivity, to inadequately prepared ticket checkers.
Some fans reported being asked to queue again or go straight to the ticket office to resolve the issue, further exacerbating the chaos. "I've seen this many times, but today is the worst," one frustrated fan shared.
This isn't the first time the new system has caused problems. Even at the season opener against Arsenal, hundreds of people were unable to enter the stadium on time. The issue repeated itself after last week's defeat to Everton and has now reached a peak ahead of the West Ham clash.
