The scenario involves an oil spill occurring in international waters, affecting the ecosystem and environment. An immediate emergency response procedure is activated, and all crew members on board are notified to deploy to respond to the oil spill.

The Coast Guard vessel 8005 of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command and the Sumadra Paheredar-ICG 202 of the Indian Coast Guard were deployed to handle the oil spill. Equipped with modern, specialized equipment, officers and crew members from both forces coordinated and implemented a comprehensive technical approach to handling the oil spill according to a scientific and rigorous procedure; they successfully contained, treated, and collected the spilled oil, completing their assigned task.

During the response to the incident, two vessels from the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard received an SOS signal from a ship engulfed in flames at sea. Coast Guard vessel 8005 and the Sumadra Paheredar-ICG 202 sped to the scene, approached the distressed vessel, and coordinated the use of water cannons to extinguish the fire.

At this point, the people on the distressed ship jumped into the sea to escape. Upon spotting people on the surface, the ships quickly determined their coordinates and urgently lowered speedboats to approach, bring the victims aboard, and provide first aid and stabilize their health.

At the end of their mission, the two ships exchanged a ceremonial greeting at sea and continued their journey to carry out other tasks.

According to Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Coast Guard Region 3, this is a practical activity for the forces of the two countries to exchange and learn about the ability to handle situations and respond to incidents at sea, helping officers and personnel of both countries gain more experience; at the same time, it fosters proactiveness, creativity, and enhances organizational and command capabilities in carrying out assigned tasks.

Earlier, the Indian Coast Guard vessel Sumadra Paheredar-ICG 202 arrived in Ho Chi Minh City during its visit to Vietnam from April 2nd to 5th.

According to Brigadier General Sudhir Ravindran, Head of the Indian Coast Guard delegation, this is an opportunity for both sides to exchange, learn, and share practical experiences in maritime law enforcement. This will contribute to strengthening the friendly relations, cooperation, mutual understanding, and trust between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard in the future.”
