On June 22, Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov affirmed that, based on existing diplomatic channels, Caracas has sufficient opportunities to join the BRICS group of leading emerging economies (comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).
According to the Russian diplomat , partnership models such as BRICS Outreach and BRICS Plus are being implemented by the bloc to boost transnational cooperation.
Speaking on the Rossiya 24 television channel, Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov highlighted the role of these forms of partnership and expressed confidence in BRICS' position in the international arena.
"There is no doubt that Venezuela is likely to join BRICS in one form or another," Ambassador Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov said.
Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov believes that this will be decided by the BRICS member states. Accordingly, all the necessary platforms and mechanisms will be developed so that countries with a need and interest in cooperation have the opportunity to access the various tools of BRICS.
According to the Russian diplomat, it is no coincidence that many countries, including Venezuela, have expressed interest in joining the organization, "because member states cooperate and communicate on an equal and promising basis."
In recent years, BRICS has attracted considerable interest from countries wishing to join, including, in addition to Venezuela, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, and Türkiye.
The next BRICS summit is scheduled to take place in August in South Africa. BRICS, currently chaired by South Africa, accounts for more than 20% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 42% of the world's population.
