In the first nine months of 2024, approximately 1 million out of a total of 2.7 million tourists visiting Cat Ba chose to explore Lan Ha Bay.
These are two key tourist destinations in Hai Phong city, making the biggest contribution to the city's tourism development. Urgent reconstruction is needed in Cat Hai District (the administrative unit managing the Cat Ba archipelago) and Do Son District, two mainland areas of Hai Phong most severely affected by Typhoon No. 3 ( Yagi ). The storm knocked down most of the trees at restaurants and hotels in the area. Infrastructure of many major tourism brands suffered serious damage. Overcoming the consequences of Typhoon No. 3 in Cat Ba is even more difficult due to disrupted transportation, power outages, water shortages, and internet outages throughout the island district in the initial period after the storm. According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Hai District, under the direction of the city, the proactive efforts of the locality, and the cooperation of various departments, the first priority is to break the isolation of Cat Ba Island. A day after the storm, cleanup efforts at the ferry terminals – the transit points for transporting people and vehicles from the mainland of Hai Phong to Cat Ba Island – were carried out urgently, ensuring safe docks and conditions for transport ships carrying rescue forces, food, and supplies to the island, as well as assisting residents in traveling between the island and the mainland. On Cat Ba Island, the district mobilized local forces with the support of the armed forces to clear internal traffic on the island, prioritizing the main road connecting the Cai Vieng ferry to the town and communes on the island. Electricity, water, and internet services were gradually restored. By this time, the roads on the island were basically clean, and about 30% of restaurants and hotels had reopened. It is expected that by October 1st, about 90% of restaurants and hotels in Cat Ba will be operating normally. Mr. Pham Truong, the investor of M' Gallery Hotel (the first 5-star hotel in Cat Ba), said that after the storm, calling repairmen from the city to Cat Ba was almost impossible due to the long distances. Therefore, all the hotel's leaders and employees joined hands to repair and clean up, and at this point, M'Gallery has repaired almost 100% of the damage after the storm. The hotel has continued to welcome guests in recent times and will welcome about 200 tourists from Europe this weekend (September 28-29). Positive recovery.

90% of restaurants and hotels on Cat Ba Island will be open to serving tourists from October 1st.
Cat Ba is a popular tourist destination for many Europeans during the autumn and winter months. Jordan Carr, a British tourist, said he has traveled to 24 countries and territories. When he comes to Vietnam, he plans to visit destinations like Ha Giang , Son Doong Cave, and Cat Ba. After researching Cat Ba, Jordan Carr found it to be a unique tourist spot – a place with both sea and forest, along with many experiential activities in Lan Ha Bay. Cat Ba's outstanding features are its peaceful landscape and the warmth of its people. During his two days on Cat Ba Island, he witnessed the locals working together to clean up the environment, repair restaurants and hotels with the utmost effort, and provide the best possible service to tourists. This is a beautiful impression he will never forget. Meanwhile, Mr. Dinh Van Manh, owner of the Gia Cat Long chain of hotels and restaurants in Cat Ba town, said that groups of foreign tourists have returned to Cat Ba and stayed at his family's hotel. This hotel chain is ready to welcome athletes participating in the VTV LP Bank International Marathon - Cat Ba Sunset Colors 2024, scheduled to be held on October 19th. According to Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Hai District, approximately 3,000 athletes have registered to participate in the VTV LP Bank International Marathon - Cat Ba Sunset Colors 2024. A special feature of these events is that many family members will accompany the athletes to experience local tourism products. This will be a great opportunity for Cat Ba tourism to restart and recover positively after the storm. In Do Son, the district is restarting tourism with the opening activity being the Buffalo Fighting Festival. After 35 years of restoring the festival, this is the first year the festival has been postponed from the traditional date of August 9th (lunar calendar) to August 19th (lunar calendar) (September 21st) to allow the district and related units to address the consequences of Typhoon No. 3.
On the same day, September 21st, the final round of the Miss Tourism Vietnam Global 2024 pageant took place in Do Son. According to Mr. Pham Hoang Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Do Son District, these activities are important contributions to creating a series of products during the Autumn-Winter season to attract tourists, making Do Son an attractive tourist destination year-round. Mr. Pham Duy Khanh, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Miss Tourism Vietnam Global 2024 pageant, shared that Do Son is already a well-known tourism brand of the port city. This year, the Organizing Committee decided to choose Do Son as the venue for the final round to help spread the long-standing tourism brand of the port city to friends both domestically and internationally. According to a quick report by a Vietnam News Agency reporter, in Do Son, besides tourists attending the Buffalo Fighting Festival and the Final Night of the Miss Tourism Vietnam Global 2024 competition, Do Son also attracts many golfers who come to play friendly matches at the two golf courses in the district. According to the district's report, Do Son welcomed approximately 3.5 million visitors in the past nine months. In 2024, Do Son aims to welcome 3.8 million visitors. Data from the People's Committee of Cat Hai district shows that in the past nine months, nearly 3 million visitors came to Cat Ba, including about 810,000 international tourists. Notably, about 900,000 visitors toured and stayed overnight in Lan Ha Bay. This group of tourists has high spending power and makes a significant contribution to increasing local budget revenue. Currently, tourism and services account for about 75% of Cat Hai district's economy. Regarding tourist accommodation, the district has 313 lodging establishments with 6,566 rooms. Among these, two tourist accommodation facilities have been recognized as 5-star by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, offering over 1,000 rooms and a variety of services for tourists visiting and relaxing on the island. In addition, there is a modern cruise ship system operating in the bays of the Cat Ba archipelago. These cruise ships are gradually meeting the needs of high-spending tourists, especially international visitors. The food and beverage service system in the area has also been invested in and upgraded in scale and quality, with 77 food and beverage establishments, effectively meeting the needs of tourists visiting Cat Ba.
