The new Phong Chau Bridge is designed using a balanced cantilever method with reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete.

Following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee in Document No. 3846/UBND-CNXD dated September 17, 2024, regarding the implementation of the Prime Minister 's directive on urgently researching and investing in the construction of a new Phong Chau Bridge on National Highway 32C, the Department of Transport has directed the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transport, Civil and Industrial Works to coordinate with the design consulting unit, the Transport Design Consulting Corporation - JSC, to conduct surveys and develop a design plan for the Phong Chau Bridge.

The current location of Phong Chau Bridge.

Accordingly, the new Phong Chau bridge will be built at the location of the old Phong Chau bridge (Km18+300 on National Highway 32C). The total length of the project is approximately 1km, of which the new Phong Chau bridge is 400m long; the approach road to the Phong Chau bridge connecting to the inter-regional traffic route is 600m long and is designed to be in accordance with the Phu Tho province planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1579/QD-TTg dated December 5, 2023.

Specifically, the new Phong Chau bridge is designed using a balanced cantilever method with reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete; the total length of the bridge, including the two abutments, is 393.5m; the total width of the bridge is 21.5m (including 4 lanes for motorized vehicles, 2 lanes for non-motorized vehicles, a median strip, safety barriers, and bridge railings); the span arrangement is (90+135+90)+(33+33)m.

The approach road to Phong Chau Bridge connects to the inter-regional transportation route, which has been upgraded and expanded to meet the standards of a Class III road in the plains, with a design speed of 80 km/h.

The total investment for the new Phong Chau Bridge construction project is 875 billion VND, funded by the Central Government budget.

According to Tran Hoai Giang, Director of the Department of Transport, in order to promptly resolve traffic disruptions, help people stabilize their lives and production, and contribute to promoting socio-economic development, the Department of Transport has submitted a report to the Provincial People's Committee, requesting that they report to the competent authorities for guidance on the procedures for implementing the investment and construction of the new Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C under the form of emergency public investment; and at the same time, allow the application of a special mechanism in the organization of contractor selection for all project packages through a simplified direct contracting method to accelerate the progress of investment and construction.
