These colorful artificial lures are made of rubber, are lightweight, and easy to use.

Mr. Tran Van Thao, residing in Hai Trong hamlet, Nam Yen commune, An Bien district ( Kien Giang province), really enjoys this type of fishing. Mr. Thao said that in the past, before he had fishing rods, he used bamboo or rattan about 4 meters long as a rod and caught frogs as bait.

"Currently, artificial lures and fishing rods are readily available on the market, lightweight, and easily assembled and disassembled, making them convenient for long-distance fishing trips," Thao shared.

When casting, the angler maneuvers the artificial lure across the water's surface to attract predatory fish. Using this method, anglers can catch many types of fish such as snakehead, sea bass, and scad.

With just a fishing rod and artificial frog bait, anglers can bring home fish.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, residing in Thu Nhat hamlet, Tay Yen commune, An Bien district (Kien Giang province), said that the choice of fishing bait depends on the characteristics of each terrain. In areas with many reeds or lotus ponds, lots of grass or obstacles, the most suitable choice is floating bait that is not snagged, such as soft frogs or jumping frogs. In areas with water depths of 1-3 meters and few obstacles, metal lures for bottom fishing are the most suitable choice.

Based on his experience, Khanh suggests choosing a spot with plenty of grass and reeds, as these are where fish usually feed and seek shelter from the sun. This location is also less crowded, avoiding any disturbance when a fish bites.

Currently, the market offers many types of fishing rods, some made from high-quality carbon fiber, while more affordable options are made from plastic or fiberglass.

Mr. Le Thanh Mong, residing in Roc Nang hamlet, Hung Yen commune, An Bien district (Kien Giang province), an experienced angler, shared: “On warm days, fish swim more in the upper water layer to feed, making it easier to cast your line. In addition, after rain showers or at dawn are also the times when fish are most active, making it an ideal time to go fishing.”

Initially, Mr. Mong fished for recreation in his free time, but later, he caught so much fish that he couldn't eat it all, so he sold it to neighbors in the village, thus earning extra income. "This profession has only recently developed, but if you work hard, you'll always have fish to eat. I even earn an extra 200,000-400,000 VND per day," Mr. Mong said.
