Athlete Huynh Kim Tien won the gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Karate Championship.
On June 20, coach of the national team and youth karate team of Kien Giang Sports Training and Competition Center Ho Thanh Lac said that at the 2025 Southeast Asian karate championship held in Brunei, athlete Huynh Kim Tien of Kien Giang excellently defeated her opponent, winning the gold medal in the women's individual combat in the 66kg weight class, Junior (young) age group.
This is the second consecutive season at the ASEAN regional level that athlete Kim Tien has won a gold medal for the Vietnamese national karate team.
The 2025 Southeast Asian Karate Championship will take place from June 16 to 19, bringing together nearly 500 athletes from countries in the Southeast Asian region, competing in kata (performance) and kumite (combat), divided into three age groups: youth, youth and championship.
The tournament is an opportunity for athletes to compete, gain experience and most importantly, perform their best to qualify for the 33rd SEA Games, which will take place at the end of this year in Thailand.
At the end of the tournament, Vietnam ranked first with 28 gold medals, 31 silver medals and 17 bronze medals; Indonesia ranked second with 11 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 24 bronze medals; Thailand ranked third with 8 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 27 bronze medals.
