Shaw made very little contribution to MU. |
Shaw had just returned to action in the dramatic 5-4 victory against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals. The English defender played 75 minutes at Old Trafford despite being deemed not yet fully fit.
On April 20th, manager Ruben Amorim decided to rest Shaw and did not include him in the squad for the match against Wolves.
On social media, Manchester United fans expressed their outrage at this news. One fan sarcastically commented: "Playing football in the middle of the week and then resting on the weekend, how pathetic for Luke Shaw." Another account wrote: "Maybe he needs another 365 days to recover from injury."
Another fan commented: "It's time to sell Shaw, his playing time is decreasing."
Over the years, Shaw has frequently been criticized for his recurring injuries and inconsistent fitness. In the last two seasons, he has only played 20 games, totaling a mere 1365 minutes of playing time. This has led many fans to believe that Manchester United should not be patient and should sell Shaw soon to invest in a higher-quality defender.
Replacing Shaw in the match against Wolves was Tyler Fredricson, a player promoted from the Manchester United U21 team. The young Red Devils center-back had a promising debut, playing confidently and winning several effective challenges.
It is currently unclear whether Shaw will feature in the away match against Bournemouth in the 34th round of the Premier League on April 27th.
