Behind every step on the football field, there are the silent presence of fathers and mothers who accompany their children, sacrificing their time and effort to help them pursue their passions.

Supporting your child's growth and development.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha (from Trang Dai ward) has a son, Nguyen Vu, who is 11 years old this year. More than three years ago, seeing her son's love for football, she enrolled him in training at a club near their home to receive proper guidance. Since then, Ms. Ha has noticed many positive changes in her son. He no longer frequently suffers from colds and runny noses as before; he has become healthier, more agile, and more confident. More importantly, football has helped him develop discipline, learn to manage his time effectively for studying and daily activities, and understand the value of teamwork.

“Since joining football, Vu has become more active, more conscious of his health, and more motivated to work for the team. There are days when he comes home from school tired, but when it's time for practice, he prepares his things and goes to the field on his own. What I value most is that he has learned discipline and a sense of responsibility,” Ms. Ha shared.

The family's joy was further amplified when Nguyen Vu was selected for the Trang Dai Ward U.11 team to participate in this year's tournament. For over a month, rain or shine, his mother has arranged her work schedule to take him to the training ground. While Vu practices, she chooses a small corner on the field to watch every move, and then drives him home after training.

Being a self-employed trader, Ms. Ha has more control over her time. For her, being with her child isn't a responsibility, but a source of happiness. "Seeing my child love football makes me very happy. Playing sports helps him limit his screen time and keeps him healthy for studying. I don't put pressure on him to become a professional player. What I hope for most is that he maintains his love for football, lives a disciplined life, knows how to cooperate, and grows up to be a useful person," Ms. Ha confided.

The story of Mr. Nguyen Van Toan (from Tan Trieu ward) also began with a very simple wish of a father. About four years ago, he noticed that his two sons often spent a lot of time watching TV and using their phones, so he tried to arrange his business schedule to take them to the football field to play every afternoon. These football sessions with his sons helped him discover their talents. From then on, he enrolled them in a football club for proper training.

In 2024, the eldest son, Nguyen Tran Hoang Minh, was selected for the U.11 team of Vinh Cuu district (formerly) to participate in the 20th Dong Nai Newspaper - CP Vietnam Children's Football Cup. The family's joy continued when their youngest son, Nguyen Tran An Khang, was selected for the U.11 team of Tan Trieu ward to participate in this year's tournament.

For over a month, Mr. Toan has been by his children's side throughout the tournament preparation. From transportation and meals to sleep arrangements and motivational encouragement before each training session, he has strived to ensure his children are in the best physical condition. "First and foremost, I want my children to practice sports to improve their health and support their studies. Later, if they are truly passionate and want to pursue a professional football career, the family will always support them," Mr. Toan said.

Silent love

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc (from Binh Loc ward), mother of footballer Doan Anh Kiet (U.11 team of Binh Loc ward), said: "My son has loved football since he was 6 years old. Although he hasn't studied at a center, Kiet still regularly plays football with his friends and older boys at the field near our house."

Recognizing Kiet's passion, his family always created opportunities for him to pursue his favorite sport. "Allowing Kiet to participate in sports has brought many positive things. He is healthier, more confident, more active, and has made many new friends," Ms. Truc shared.

For over a month leading up to the tournament, Ms. Truc made sure to take her child to and from training sessions regularly. Before each practice, she prepared water, personal items, and reminded her child to be disciplined and punctual. What she remembers most are the times her child was sternly reprimanded by the coach on the field. "Initially, I felt sorry for my child. But I understood that it was the coach's way of helping the children improve. What made me happy was that after each such incident, my child learned to listen, adjust, and try harder in subsequent training sessions," Ms. Truc confided.

While on the football field, the children learn to fight for their team's colors, off the sidelines, parents also quietly contribute to the team's success. Mr. Nguyen Van Toan regularly prepares drinks for the players; he readily uses his personal funds to support the uniforms for the U.11 team of Tan Trieu ward. "We always try to support within our means. Some prepare drinks, others remind the children to eat on time, and some encourage them before each match... All of this stems from our love for the children and our desire for the team to have the best possible playing conditions," Mr. Toan said.

Ms. Truc often brings orange juice or lemonade for her son to share with his teammates after training. "Through small things like this, I want my son to understand more about teamwork and sharing in football," Ms. Truc confided.

According to Mr. Ta Van Chien, coach of the U.11 team in Binh Loc ward, parents are always especially important companions in the development of young children. Over the past time, he has witnessed many touching stories about the love and sacrifice of parents. “The image that I remember most is that of Kiet's mother. Even on days with torrential rain, the two of them still braved the rain to get to the training ground on time. It wasn't simply a football training session, but a mother's love and support for her child on their journey to pursue their passion,” Mr. Chien shared.

According to Mr. Chien, the collaboration between parents and the coaching staff is crucial in the education and guidance of the children. While teachers help them perfect their skills, develop discipline, and foster teamwork, the family is the solid foundation for maintaining motivation and shaping their character. "When parents and the coaching staff share a common goal, listen to and support each other, the children will develop more comprehensively. They will not only learn to play football but also acquire politeness, responsibility, perseverance, and the will to overcome difficulties," Mr. Chien emphasized.

Most parents who participated in supporting the teams appreciated the Dong Nai Newspaper and Radio & Television Cup - CP Vietnam Children's Football Tournament as a practical and beneficial playground for children. The tournament provided opportunities for children to interact, learn, and develop their football skills in a healthy environment. Through competition, children also cultivated discipline, a strong will to succeed, and teamwork. Therefore, parents hope that this tournament will continue to be maintained and expanded in the coming years.
