Providing financial assistance for housing construction to disadvantaged households in Yen Son commune.

Yen Son is a border commune, with nearly 16 km of border with Xieng Kho district, Hua Phan province, Lao People's Democratic Republic. The commune has over 2,700 households with more than 12,300 inhabitants living in 22 villages, comprising four ethnic groups: Thai, Xinh Mun, Mong, and Kinh, all living together in difficult conditions. Currently, the commune has 567 poor households, accounting for 20.63%, and 334 near-poor households, accounting for 12.15%.

Mr. Lo The Thi, Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Son Commune, informed: The People's Committee of Yen Son Commune has proactively developed a plan to care for people during Tet (Lunar New Year), assigning officials and organizations to go to each village to review eligible individuals and understand the specific circumstances of each household in order to provide appropriate support. To date, the commune has established 22 working groups, directly visiting villages to offer gifts to 901 poor households, near-poor households, and policy beneficiary families. In addition, the commune has mobilized and coordinated with agencies and units to simultaneously implement social welfare activities. In coordination with the Chieng On Border Guard Station, working groups visited villages to offer encouragement and distributed 635 Tet gifts, including essential necessities, confectionery, rice, cooking oil, and cash... to poor and near-poor households, totaling over 500 million VND. The Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee and BIDV Bank also donated 100 Tet gifts, each worth 500,000 VND, to disadvantaged households. The Provincial Forest Protection and Development Fund provided 100 gift packages to poor and near-poor households.

Through the joint efforts of the Trade Union and Youth Union of BIDV Bank Son La Branch, a housing support program for impoverished households has provided financial assistance of 70 million VND per household to 12 particularly disadvantaged households in the commune. Construction of these houses began in October 2025 and has now been completed, meeting the "three solid" criteria (solid walls, solid roof, solid walls, solid foundation), providing families with a secure place to live and allowing them to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) in their new homes.

Mr. Vi Van Quyet, a poor household in Na Dit village, shared: "My family is classified as a poor household. This year, we received gifts from the State, the Border Guard, and various organizations, and we also received support to build a new house. Having a sturdy house to celebrate Tet in makes us feel much more secure and gives us more motivation to develop our economy , increase our income, and escape poverty soon."

The delegation from the National Assembly's Ethnic Affairs Council visited and presented Tet gifts to families receiving preferential treatment, poor households, and respected individuals of ethnic minority communities in Yen Son commune.

Mr. Hoang Van Anh, Deputy Director of BIDV Son La Branch, said: BIDV considers accompanying the locality in social welfare work as a long-term responsibility. Supporting the construction of housing for poor households in Yen Son aims to help people stabilize their living conditions, thereby creating conditions for economic development and gradually rising out of poverty sustainably. In the future, BIDV will continue to coordinate with the locality to review and develop more plans to support the elimination of temporary housing in the area.

Along with preparing for Tet (Lunar New Year), the commune government also focuses on disseminating information and mobilizing people to proactively strive for sustainable poverty alleviation. Organizations understand the thoughts and aspirations of each household to connect them with loan programs, vocational training, and long-term livelihood opportunities.

Tet is fast approaching. In the border villages of Yen Son, the joy of spring is nurtured by the care of the Party and the State, and the support of the community. This is the driving force that gives people more confidence, enabling them to continue striving to build a prosperous and sustainable life in the border region of the Fatherland.
