During the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024, city leaders visited families receiving preferential treatment in Hoa Vang district, including Mrs. Pham Thi Thin (102 years old, Hoa Khuong commune), a Vietnamese Heroic Mother whose husband and son were martyrs. Mrs. Thin lives with her son and faces difficult circumstances. After directly listening to her and her family's concerns, city leaders decided to provide financial assistance for house repairs. After two months of construction, the house was upgraded, with a new bedroom built, and the ancestral altar and main house renovated. Upon receiving her new home, Mrs. Thin was deeply moved and expressed her gratitude for the city government's concern. She stated that she would strive to live a healthy life, setting an example for her descendants to continue the patriotic tradition and contribute to the development of their homeland.
Recently, the People's Committee of Da Nang City held a ceremony to inaugurate a social housing project for people with meritorious services to the revolution on Vu Mong Nguyen Street (Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District). The project comprises 209 apartments, each ranging in size from 65 to 77 square meters, with a total investment of over 223 billion VND. This will provide stable housing for families of people with meritorious services to the revolution who are facing housing difficulties. The project is a significant milestone in the implementation of the "Construction of social housing complexes for families of people with meritorious services to the revolution facing housing difficulties" project for the period 2020-2025. The completion and handover of the project contributes to improving the material and spiritual quality of life for policy beneficiary families, demonstrating the profound and timely concern of the city government.
The city has enacted many outstanding policies in the work of showing gratitude and appreciation. Among them, Resolution No. 132/2017/NQ-HĐND stipulates support for land use fees and assistance for building or repairing houses for people with meritorious service, with support levels ranging from 45 to 70 million VND per household depending on the target group. Resolution No. 245/2019/NQ-HĐND further expands policies on healthcare and support for people with meritorious service who are from poor households and no longer able to work. These policies are deeply humane, while also closely meeting the actual needs of the people, contributing to the long-term stability of life for policy beneficiaries.
Along with the city government, local authorities have also actively participated in caring for war veterans and their families. From the beginning of 2024 to the present, Lien Chieu district has proposed repairing and building new houses for 46 households, with a total budget of 1.62 billion VND. In addition, nearly 160 policy beneficiary families have received gifts with a total budget of approximately 200 million VND; 50 exemplary households have received support, including living Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor Heroes, war invalids, people severely affected by chemical toxins, and households with particularly difficult circumstances, with each gift worth 1.5 million VND. In Cam Le district, the District People's Committee organized delegations to visit and present gifts to policy beneficiary families on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day; implemented concentrated rehabilitation for 60 war veterans at provincial and city rehabilitation centers; repaired and built new houses for 24 households with a total budget of 840 million VND...
The City Youth Union organized many meaningful activities to express gratitude to those who contributed to the revolution. Among them, the "We are always by Mother's side" model was implemented in 73 families of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers across the city, with Youth Union members and young people visiting their homes to offer support and provide regular health care. Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Phuong, Head of the City Youth Union's Propaganda Department, shared that the program demonstrates the deep gratitude of the younger generation for the great sacrifices made by the Mothers in the revolutionary cause.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Affairs Nguyen The Tuan, in implementing the Ordinance on Preferential Treatment for Meritorious Persons, the city has always proactively and promptly paid all benefits and policies to meritorious persons and their relatives. The city reviewed and compiled the needs for house repair and construction in 2025. Based on that, the City People's Committee issued Decision No. 651/QD-UBND approving the project to support meritorious persons and relatives of martyrs with housing. It is expected that by May 31, 2025, the city will complete the support for repairing and building 454 houses for these individuals, with a total budget of over 23.74 billion VND from central and local government funds.
The practical efforts of the entire city's political system to care for those who contributed to the revolution are a profound expression of gratitude, and at the same time, a foundation for building national unity and promoting patriotic traditions in the construction and development of the city.
