According to the 2023-2024 school year plan, Hung Loi Ethnic Boarding Junior High School has 692 students in 16 classes, of which 287 students are boarding students, living and eating at the school. Despite difficulties in facilities, with a sense of responsibility and dedication to their profession and students, the school's staff and teachers have overcome challenges and consistently performed their duties well to ensure the students' learning and daily well-being.

Mr. Doan Cuong Trang, Principal of Hung Loi Semi-Boarding Ethnic Minority Junior High School, said: "From the beginning of the school year, the school has implemented the boarding program in accordance with regulations. Currently, the school has a boarding system including one dining hall, a kitchen, and 28 boarding rooms that meet the requirements. Boarding students have their own timetables, ensuring their studies, meals, accommodation, daily activities, and participation in physical activities. This school year, the school has not had any cases of students absent from school."
In the 2025-2026 school year, Lung Cu Ethnic Minority Boarding Junior High School will have 469 students in 12 classes. Along with improving the quality of teaching and learning, from the beginning of the school year, the school has developed a detailed plan, established a council to review policies and benefits for students, and organized accommodation and meals for them at the school.
At the same time, the school selects reliable food suppliers with clear origins; adheres to food safety and hygiene measures; ensures nutritious, clean, and safe meals; and regularly changes the menu to help students maintain good health and focus on their studies. In addition, the school's management board has developed a specific plan for managing the boarding program: assigning teachers to supervise the boarding program, organizing evening classes, and guiding students in life skills, personal hygiene, and self-care…
According to Principal Pham Van Tuan: "After the school started providing meals for students, many students have come to regard the school's boarding facility as their second home. Therefore, the school pays special attention to the quality of the meals to ensure that students have good physical health to support their studies."
The recent Typhoon No. 10 severely affected several localities in the province, with many boarding schools suffering heavy damage. The Lao Chai Primary and Secondary Boarding High School was completely destroyed after the storm, with its entire dormitory, kitchen, and toilet facilities serving 507 boarding students from both levels collapsing. This requires timely intervention and support from the local authorities. “Currently, the school is receiving temporary support from the local Party committee and government, such as: relocating boarding students to a safe area; and ensuring that students' meals are still being provided with adequate nutrition and quality.”
However, the biggest challenge currently facing the school's boarding program is providing dining, cooking, accommodation, and restroom facilities for the students. At present, the school can only provide two dormitory rooms and ten single rooms for over 500 students. The restroom area has been completely destroyed by landslides, creating difficulties for the students, especially the female students.
"Currently, the school is hoping for the cooperation and support of the entire community to overcome difficulties and quickly stabilize the boarding school program, so that students can study with more peace of mind," shared Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh, the school principal.
Caring for boarding students is a task of profound humanitarian significance, creating conditions for children in disadvantaged areas to study and develop comprehensively. Despite many difficulties, with the determination of schools, the education sector, and the support of Party committees, government authorities, and the entire society in caring for boarding students, we believe that the quality of education in the province's disadvantaged areas will continue to improve and be enhanced.
