Throbbing with the song of Co Tu - Kinh

Just 1 month after being posted on the YouTube channel Danh Zoram Official (over 17,000 followers), the music album "Chang trai Co Tu" composed and performed by Danh Zoram has received many positive interactions from listeners. With a length of nearly 41 minutes, the 8 songs written by Danh Zoram about the Tay Giang and Quang Nam forests have brought many new emotions.

If the two bilingual songs Co Tu - Kinh Chang trai Co Tu and Yeu co gai Co Tu have a lively, cheerful rhythm, then Tay Giang dai ngan is profound, almost breaking the strong rhythm of the songs with the sound of mountains and forests. Although the song has lyrics that refer to his hometown Tay Giang, the harmony and arrangement have a folk melody with instruments such as flute, zither... creating a new feeling for the listener.

Right from the beginning of his musical career, Danh Zoram soon showed himself to be a versatile artist who could sing many genres of music such as pop music, folk songs, or revolutionary music... But as Danh shared, when he returned to the music genre with the sound of the great forest, with the melody of the mountains and forests, he felt like he was immersed in the arms of his parents.

"The materials, content and ideas I have come from the Co Tu culture, from the hard days when I was a child, working hard in the fields like many other Co Tu people to make a living. Composing and singing about my homeland, I sing about myself...", Danh Zoram confided.

Danh said that 10 years ago, when he entered the Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture and Arts, despite facing many difficulties and not receiving support from his family, thanks to his talent, he quickly caught up with the musical environment. Danh joined the D&V group with the stage name Tay Giang to remind himself of his homeland and had initial successes through two albums Chi co em anh moi hanh phuc and Dung khoc em nhe! in a duet with singer Thai Phong Vu. But not long after that, the group disbanded and he returned to his studies at school. In a foreign land, the young Co Tu had the opportunity to meet many singers such as Pham Truong, Quang Ha, Vu Ha... and collaborate with them through the works he composed.

"As a young monk, living honestly and uprightly"

Staying in Ho Chi Minh City with the determination to pursue a musical career, Danh continued his work as a freelance singer. At the end of 2021, he returned with the new stage name Danh Zoram with the MV " I have a husband" . Danh collaborated with his colleagues to produce music at WE Studio. On the digital platform, Danh Zoram continued to release MVs singing about the Tay Giang and Quang regions, impressing viewers. The works " Ve que em vung cao", "Mung guol (nha lang) moi" , "Nho thuc vung cao", "Doi mat Co Tu" ... made viewers excited with beautiful scenes of traditional ancient villages, majestic green forests... The characters appearing in the MV all wore the brocade costumes of the Co Tu people, carrying baskets to the fields.

"Through my compositions as well as investing in MVs, I want to spread and promote the image, culture, and people of the Co Tu as well as the land of Tay Giang, Quang Nam to the general public. My latest compositions in the album "Chang trai Co Tu" also clearly have the Truong Son mountain range as their material. However, this album not only has songs revolving around the theme of the Co Tu or Tay Giang, but also has songs about Quang Nam, about the solidarity between ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands region", Danh Zoram shared.

The male singer-songwriter said that with his production work, he often composes and collaborates with other artists to create highlights in the cultural exchange between ethnic groups in the region. In the album Chang trai Co Tu , Danh Zoram collaborated with Sao Mai 2017 champion Sen Hoang My Lam (Nung ethnic group) in the song Hoa sim giu rung ; and collaborated with singer Sally Q (Ede ethnic group) in the song Nhung canh chim dai ngan . "In the future, I hope to collaborate with many other ethnic artists," Danh said.

With WE Studio, he has achieved some success and has a foothold in music distribution and release on digital platforms. Danh did everything himself, using his own money without any sponsors or partners, while he comes from a poor family in the mountains, so he often fell into extremely difficult situations. There were times when Danh Zoram was discouraged and wanted to give up...

"At times like that, I ask myself why I started. Why did I accept life and death, fasting and starving for music, and now that I only have a short youth left, I can't persevere... After times like that, I am even more determined, trying harder to pursue the path I have chosen, as in the lyrics of the song "The Co Tu Boy" that I wrote: As a Co Tu boy, living uprightly and honestly like a bird in the sky/As a Co Tu boy, always remembering the words of the forest mother, nurturing aspirations for the country", Danh confided.
