DNVN - On December 12th, the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT experienced a malfunction, causing the service to cease operation globally.
Data from Downdetector indicates the outage began around 7:10 AM on December 12th. Many services of the US-based company were disrupted, with the majority of outage reports directly related to ChatGPT.
In Singapore, the number of users reporting ChatGPT errors surged, peaking at 150 cases at 8:09 AM. In the US, the number was much higher, reaching 28,478 cases at 7:40 AM.
Posting on social media platform X at 8:15 AM, OpenAI announced: “We are currently experiencing an outage. We have identified the issue and are working on a fix. We apologize and will keep you updated.”
The outage disappointed many users, including a significant number of those using paid service packages. On social media platform X, some students expressed their frustration because they needed to complete assignments urgently when the outage occurred.
One user stated, "ChatGPT decided to shut down the day before I had a project to finish."
Another comment shared: “I was a paid member of ChatGPT from the beginning, then their $200 package came out and now my contract has been terminated...”.
However, some humorous comments also appeared: "ChatGPT has stopped working. Looks like everyone will have to complete assignments the old way," one person wrote.
Earlier, on December 11th ( Pacific Time), applications such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Threads, all belonging to the Meta Group, also experienced technical issues, resulting in worldwide inaccessibility.
Meta confirmed the issue in a social media post, stating that the problem affected the accessibility of some users. The company is working to fix the issue and apologizes to affected customers.
Instagram also issued a similar announcement, while WhatsApp confirmed the bug had been resolved and stated that users could start messaging normally from 1:49 AM on December 12th, Vietnam time.
According to Downdetector.com, the Meta outage started at 10 AM on December 11th ( Pacific Time), which is approximately 1 AM on December 12th in Vietnam. The number of error reports surged to over 97,000 by 10 AM, while Instagram alone recorded over 67,000 reports.
To date, Meta is still investigating the cause of this incident.
