A fire broke out on the night of July 17 (local time) in an apartment building in the working-class neighborhood of Les Moulins, Nice, in southern France, killing seven people.
Rescue workers said they faced a "fierce apartment fire" on the 7th floor of the building. They carried out three aerial ladder rescues and evacuated dozens of people. A total of 25 fire trucks and 72 firefighters participated in extinguishing the blaze.
Despite the deployment of significant resources, the search and rescue operation concluded with a death toll of seven people. Among the victims were three children and one teenager. Four people were injured, one of whom is in critical condition.
The cause of the incident is currently unknown. Investigators are examining the possibility that the fire was caused by arson.
