From October onwards, the wild sunflowers bloom in vibrant yellow across the Central Highlands.

Dreamy road

In Da Lat, in a house overlooking the hills, behind the house, wild sunflowers bloomed, adding a splash of vibrant yellow against the silvery stone embankment. The breathtaking scenery made us suddenly realize it was already the end of October, and the weather was beginning to turn chilly.

Two female tourists asked for directions to the wild sunflower field in Bong Lai - Tu Tra. They insisted on driving dozens of kilometers just to take pictures with the wild sunflowers.

Actually, if you're in the Central Highlands this season, you don't need to go far to see wild sunflowers. This resilient wild flower blooms brightly yellow right by the roadside, at Da Lat train station, under pine hills, in an open field…

But perhaps the most popular with tourists are the winding roads ablaze with yellow flowers located in the suburbs, such as Trai Mat - Cau Dat, Cam Ly - Van Thanh, Bong Lai - Tu Tra, the road through Palace 3 - Tuyen Lam Lake, and the extended section of Nguyen Tri Phuong road in Bao Loc…

The wild sunflower season lasts about a month, and when the last flowers wither, the cherry blossoms shed their leaves, all their life force concentrating on nourishing the flower buds. Once, a friend from Hanoi jokingly asked, "Apricot blossom is apricot blossom, a peach blossom is peach blossom, what kind of flower has both apricot and a peach blossom in it?"

Yes, I invite you to Da Lat during Tet (Lunar New Year) to see a flower with five petals like a plum blossom and a radiant pink like a peach blossom, but it doesn't bloom individually. I still call the cherry blossom more beautiful because of its "unity." When spring arrives, the clusters of flowers begin to bloom, painting a corner of the sky a brilliant pink.

In Da Lat, just stroll along Xuan Huong Lake, Tran Hung Dao Street, Tran Quy Cap Street, Da Quy Slope, Tuyen Lam Lake, the road to Trai Mat… and you'll come across those beautiful pink cherry blossom trees. For the people of Da Lat, cherry blossoms herald spring. And if the flowers bloom late, they know that the cold winter will last a long time.

For the people of Bao Loc, the flower of spring is the trumpet flower, with its endlessly beautiful pale pink hue. Passersby are sometimes captivated, having to stop because of the solitary, leafless pink trees as they walk along Tran Phu Street - National Highway 20, the Bao Loc lakefront, Nguyen Van Cu Street, Nguyen Cong Tru Street, Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Bui Thi Xuan Street, and other streets…

This tree species was planted experimentally by the city in 2010 and unexpectedly won the hearts of the people of Bao Loc and tourists from afar. The pink trumpet flowers are bell-shaped, blooming in large clusters, and whenever a breeze passes by, the petals fall, wistfully dyeing the street corner pink.

The color of flowers evokes memories.

In the land of flowers, even the flowers know how to yield and take turns displaying their beauty. When the pink blossoms of cherry blossoms and trumpet flowers fade, around March and April, as the weather warms up, the jacaranda trees in Anh Sang hamlet, by Xuan Huong Lake, along Tran Phu and Yersin streets, and around Tuyen Lam Lake in Da Lat… begin to bloom with vibrant purple flowers, standing out against the clear blue sky.

The coffee blossom season not only attracts tourists to the Central Highlands but also brings hope for prosperity to the local people.

The color purple gives Da Lat a nostalgic, dreamy, and slightly melancholic feel. That's why the city government named a major road running along Tuyen Lam Lake after this flower – the Purple Phoenix Road.

Around this time, throughout the Central Highlands provinces—Di Linh, Bao Loc, Cau Dat - Da Lat in Lam Dong, Dak Lak , Gia Lai, Dak Nong…—a gentle, sweet fragrance permeates the air, somewhat alleviating the sweltering summer heat. This is when the pure white blossoms of the coffee plants burst into bloom, with endless hills of white flowers stretching as far as the eye can see.

For the people of the Central Highlands, the coffee flowering season always brings with it much anticipation. It's the season when beekeepers reap a bountiful honey harvest, and when farmers work hard watering and caring for their coffee gardens, waiting for them to bear fruit.

Those hills covered in pristine white flowers represent the hope for livelihood for countless farming families in the coffee capital, and the anticipation of distant tourists who wish to once admire the magical beauty of the countryside.

Actually, we—those of us who live amidst the seasons of flowers—often forget to take pictures with them. Even my parents' generation, who lived in Lam Dong for half their lives, don't have a single photo taken with wild sunflowers, jacaranda trees, or coffee plants…

My mother said that life is inherently busy, and the seasons of flowers come and go, naturally and gently, like time itself. Time flows invisibly through the window; you open and close your eyes, look up, and you see a sea of flowers floating above your head.
