According to information shared with MacRumors earlier this week by analyst Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple plans to increase screen sizes to larger 6.3 and 6.9-inch models for the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max in 2024. At the time, Young did not specify whether the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would have larger screens.
However, on May 12th, Ross Young confirmed to MacRumors that these 6.3- and 6.9-inch screens will be exclusive to the iPhone Pro models, while the more affordable iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will not have larger screens.
Therefore, the standard iPhone 16 models will still use the 6.1 and 6.7-inch screens that Apple has been using for the past few years.
Mr. Young stated that the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screen sizes are rounded figures. He will reveal more detailed specifications, down to two decimal places, at the Display Week conference in Los Angeles on May 23rd.
With a screen size of approximately 6.9 inches, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the largest-screen iPhone Apple has introduced to date.
For comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have screen sizes of 6.1 and 6.7 inches, respectively. These are also the sizes expected to be used for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max launching later this year.
The screen size adjustments suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max may feature major design changes, further reductions in screen bezel size, or both.
