Old iPhone models increase in price by millions, what is happening?

(Dan Tri) - Over the past month, dealers have continuously adjusted prices for a series of older iPhone models such as iPhone 13, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Accordingly, the price of iPhone 13 increased by 700,000 VND compared to the beginning of the third quarter, up to 12 million VND for the 128GB version. iPhone 15 is currently being offered at 17 million VND, an increase of 2 million VND compared to the end of August.

iPhone 16 Pro Max is also offered by some systems at a price of 30.5 million VND for the 256GB version, an increase of 800,000 VND compared to last month.

Speaking with Dan Tri reporter, representative of Minh Tuan Mobile system explained that the main reason for the high selling price of a series of old iPhone models is due to distributors increasing import prices.

"As supplies gradually decrease and become scarce, especially with popular devices like the iPhone 13, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 Pro Max, import prices are pushed up, forcing dealers to adjust accordingly," added a representative of Minh Tuan Mobile.

Currently, the iPhone 13, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 Pro Max have all been "discontinued" by Apple. However, these devices are still being sold by the company's authorized dealers in the Vietnamese market. However, the product supply may quickly run out in the near future.

"The recent price increase of iPhone 13 and iPhone 15 mainly comes from the company's adjustment of its pricing policy. These models still maintain stable purchasing power, especially after many older models have stopped selling.

We have a plan to import goods quarterly to ensure enough to serve customers at least until the end of this year," said Ms. Van Thi Ngoc Yen, Apple product line director at Di Dong Viet.

Previously, in the middle of the second quarter, Apple stopped selling a series of old products in the Vietnamese market, including iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 14 Plus. This contributed significantly to the sales growth of iPhone 13 and iPhone 15.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max duo are also gradually entering the final stage of their life cycle. Currently, dealers only have a very small amount of inventory for these two devices. In the coming time, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will become strategic products and replace the position of the iPhone 16 Pro.
