South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics maintained its lead in the global foldable phone market share in the third quarter of this year, widening the gap with its second-place rival.
A VNA reporter in Seoul quoted a report by Counterpoint Research, a global technology market research firm in the communications and information technology industry, announced on December 6 that Samsung Electronics increased its foldable phone market share in the third quarter of 2025 by 8 percentage points compared to the same period last year, reaching 64%.
Samsung Electronics accounted for 56% of the market share in Q3 2024, a 41 percentage point difference from Huawei (15%). However, with Samsung's market share increasing and Huawei's remaining the same in Q3 2025, the market share gap between the two companies widened to 49 percentage points.
Meanwhile, Motorola ranked third with 7% market share, Honor ranked fourth with 6% market share, Vivo ranked fifth with 4% market share and Xiaomi ranked sixth with 2% market share.
In the third quarter of this year, foldable smartphones accounted for 2.5% of total global smartphone shipments.
Counterpoint Research's report analyzed that global foldable smartphone shipments in the third quarter of this year increased 14% year-on-year, recording the best quarterly performance ever, with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold7 series being the biggest growth driver.
Counterpoint Research predicts the foldable phone market will grow rapidly next year as foldable phone makers work on overall mechanical improvements and Apple drives demand for premium phones.
Samsung's first tri-fold phone will be released in extremely limited quantities, but the goal is not to scale up, a Counterpoint Research official said.
In 2026, with Apple entering the market, which is significantly changing the competitive landscape of foldable phone models, Samsung will consolidate its leading position in versatile foldable screen technology with this tri-fold phone model./.
